I've mentioned this before, and I'm hoping this won't be seen as spam for its frequency, but considering there was a recent development

To recap, the Combiner Wars Megatron mold has two available upgrade kits, one by DX9 and one by X2Toys. I liked the look of the X2Toys upgrade kit more than DX9's, so I went with that. I got it earlier in the year from an eBay seller, though it arrived with two of the same shin/foot pieces, which the seller sent a replacement for. For the longest time, I enjoyed it, combined with a shapeways cannon muzzle it was a really great looking Megatron.

Then in June, there was trouble in Paradise. The left shoulder upgrade piece snapped along its swivel housing, after minimal transformations (because neither DX9's or X2Toys' kits look great in tank mode). I then realized that EVERY piece of the upgrade kit had a crack or fracture on it in a vital spot, and if I kept manipulating them, they would likely break sooner or later. I thought to myself I should replace the upgrade kit, and it was then I discovered X2Toys did not produce a lot of this upgrade kit. Every Transformers outlet was sold out of it, aside from BBTS, which still has it listed as "pre-order". DX9's is plentiful and cheaper, but I still didn't like the look enough to get it, so for a while, it was a loss.

Then around the start of September, I discovered TFsource had the item listed as Available again. Apprehensive, I wrote to TFsource first, asking about the kit's availability and if anything could be done in the event it was actually the kit being made out of shoddy plastic that would inevitably break sooner or later. They couldn't reply with much beyond "we only have a small stock of this item", which lead me to panic, buy one and hope for the best. (sure enough, they were sold out two days later).

The second kit arived today, with the left shoulder upgrade part broken right out of the box, even if in a different place than my first kit.

Is there anybody else who owns this upgrade kit that has had similar bad luck with it? I'm not sure if I'm more aggravated or just disappointed by it.

 

I have had absolutely zero issues

the only issues I could say are the times I STUPIDLY jammed it on without noting if I plugged them in, and when I remove them, the pegs are bent because I was an idiot and didnt see if they were plugged properly so of course that was going to happen

FYI I transformer my megatron a lot as a form of stress release, this includes the X2 Toys kit and have had no issue with ANY of the other parts of it, except for some flaking o nthe paint on the gun barrel tab but thats because of how I fanmode it into the alt mode

 

had zero issues with this set. Although I've only transformed it once with the set. I do however pose it often.

 

I should point out that I was one of the first to preorder and got it immediately once BBTS got it in, so maybe the later runs were half assed? I wouldnt know

 

Well, the first kit I got was from an eBay seller, since it was listed as available while the usual sites still had it listed as pre-order or sold out. The second one was from a very short run TFsource had.

When I was getting X2Toys' Ultra Magnus upgrade, I expressed my concern to the seller over what had happened with Megatron's, he assured me that was limited to JUST Megatron, as his Magnus and Devastator upgrades seem fine. It makes sense when I compare them since Magnus' upgrades have much thicker plastic, but I can only speculate.

 

I have the same problem with both shoulders with one breaking at the swivel bicep and the other starting to crack. It's very delicate plastic where I have to carefully put it on during transformation.

 

it always seemed like attaching the shoulder plates in front of the toy's shoulders would naturally bend it into a stressing position, anybody else notice that?
