Where's strange about it? It's that reasoning that makes people at a Nissan dealership buy a Maxima instead of a Versa. There's a difference between buying a good deal and buying cheap.

That said, I don't think you can really decide that these guys look cheap from a render.

And, in any case, these guys ARE cheap. For $40 I'm willing to roll the dice, and I don't expect them to be on the same level as TFM.

 

Something like that shouldn't BE needed in the first place. All they have to do is get a screenshot of the toon, or a photo of the toy, and then match those colors. And not what seems like 'based off a description heard over the phone'-----"Umm, the one looks white with a red hood, and the other's sorta grey and red".

(Though the best would be to get actual G1 toys and send them to the factory---then they could see the actual plastic colors to match----if you're spending tens of thousands of dollars on a mold, you could spend a few dozen bucks for an incomplete Menasor to use as a good solid reference).

I don't think anyone is saying they have a problem because they ARE cheap but because they LOOK cheap.

 

How can a render look cheap

 

Lack of detail, paint apps, line work. The only thing you don't get in the render is the plastic "feel". This one is a render but Breakdown isn't. So unless there is a drastic change between the two, we can assume that if Breakdown looks cheap, and the render on this one looks cheap, then the proto will look cheap as well.

Besides, whether a render can look cheap to someone or not wasn't the point I was addressing. I was saying that I haven't seen complaints about the price being too low but rather it looks low quality.

EDIT - Looking at BReakdown, that appears to be a render as well.

Just look at how immaculate this figure is, the aesthetics is masterpiece in every sense of the word. Amazing facesculpt, blocky G1 aesthetic and just the right amount of detail to blend in with what TT is doing and not all the unnecessary detail most third parities tend to put on their figures! The figure is oozing so much G1, I reckon if I held it upside down by the leg and shook it frantically, you'd just be able to see all the G1 dripping right off.

Why the fuck doesn't FT snap up this designer, his talents are going to waste on this company which will more than likely crap out another disasterpiece in terms of quality! The fact that it's going for only £26 tells me all I need to know....that serious corners are being cut, what a shame.....pass!

Seriously though, Malware, buddy, these are as G1 as they are ever going to get. Or until TT does them. You know FT will not do them like this, they'll add all that bodybuilding look that has nothing to do with G1. Give XTB one more chance, $40 will not break the bank and who knows? maybe they are not that bad in hand!

That is EXACTLY what I was saying. Their cheap price is a plus for me. Their cheap look is not.

As for how does a render look cheap? For starters, you could give the render an unarticulated flat dickboard instead of an articulated tri-piece pelvic arrangement. Yes it has articulated hip pieces on the side, but the dickboard has got me like WTF.

I understand for the people who want their masterpiece Tf to look like they just stepped out of the poorly animated 30 year old cartoon, this looks damn near perfect. I was only commenting that while the lower price is attractive to me, the possibility of lower quality is not.

I will of course reserve judgement until later anyway.

 

I remember the last poll that was done in the 3P section of TFW2005 had nonslavish toon MP style running away with it.

 

MP 36 sold out. At $230, in most instances.

That tells me that TFW's polls have zero say on what the majority actually likes.
