Of course I'm familiar with the G1 toys. The thing is, you can't just upsize a teeny tiny kids toy from the 80s without adding detail, failing which the biggerised version looks bland. The animation models are essentially that, and the current MP aesthetic is following that simplified look. There's a balance to be struck between being underdetailed and overgreebled (which many 3Ps are fond of, no argument there). The older MPs hit that sweet spot, but the current aesthetic obviously skews towards the animation.

If I were to get these Stunticons (and I probably darn well will), I'd look into updetailing them. The simplest would perhaps involve some toy colouration (for eg colouring Breakdown's chest a metallic silver a la G1 toy) or a sticker set, either purchased or self-created.

Lol I knew it, and I agree. That said this effort looks good enough to work as a base to make a nice G1 Menasor. Not unhappy. At least there will be a fallback if nobody else takes a shot at G1 Stunticons.

 

We are going to need articulated hip skirts on this STAT!   Or is that a pelvic skirt? WTF is that piece called? Idunno, but it better be split into three parts...

Little unsure about the big flat hip-skirt piece? It's kind of toon accurate but is going to wreak havoc on leg articulation and posability. It at the very least needs to split for each thigh.

 

MP09 says real Masterpieces have contiguous tunic dickboards.

 

I was just admiring the TFM bots on my shelf... if these XT weren't so cheap I might be passing on them. They are cheap and they look G1, but they also look... kinda... cheap.  

Maybe the combined mode will knock my socks off...

It's very hard for me to judge whether a character looks cheap from a 3D printed proto of one and a very early CG render of the other.
For me, paying less is a good thing. I'm not sold on the final height of the combiner for these but I'm actually getting damn close to buying anyways because ... cheap.

These look awesome..I think Motormaster will make or break this set..I wonder how they will tackle him...Will they make the actual cab form his feet or will they put faux parts instead

 

I can see the front is just one big piece that can move. If you are counting the sides then it's 3 pieces. But i think you mean the front must be 3 pieces.

 

I like to see motormaster next then dragstrip and dead end.
Motormaster is really important to see the set makes it or break it.

 

Hoping the prototype looks as good as their Breakdown. For $40, I'll definitely pull the trigger on these guys.

Or 308 gto, or 288 gto. They all look the same because they use the same design for the styling of the car. Though 288 is the one to own if you wanne have the best one in this design.
