Shit, did I post that? I wrote it and deleted it FFS!

Didn't so much change my mind, but decided part way through (hence the abrupt ending...) that it wasn't something that sat right. Mainly for the reason you stated - paint is paint. But, I do think chrome has such a habit of getting ruined, and as you actually pointed out, you ain't gonna be able to make good in a way that's remotely close. At least with regular paint you can have a decent enough stab with an airbrush.
My other reason was that I realised that the grip wouldn't be painted either way, just the blade, so it you were gentle you could preserve it pretty well either way.

Anyway, I posted when I didn't want to, on a point that you agreed with my reason for deleting it, and I look like a bit of a dick. Good day all round I reckon!;)

Well, that combined mode looks ok. Still need to see Gravestone, and I'd like to see the price.

Toon Menasor was probably always my least favorite looking combiner.

I am approaching my limit of Stunticon teams, but I am contemplating adding the XT toy deco set.

TFM, XToon, and FT are locked in.

That chrome is much more difficult to repair is a fair point. I have two G1 Megatron figures and neither has perfect chrome. I tested on the back of one of the waist pieces with Molotow and it wasn't even close to matching. Best thing I could do was throw on a layer of clear coat to even out the scuffing and gloss up the parts that had rubbed away so they wouldn't be as obvious - it really helps that he's a lightish grey underneath and that a lot of his chrome is covered by chrome stickers. I have a used Hasbro MP09 that had some chrome wear (it's almost impossible to see chrome wear in photos for some reason so I bought it without realizing how bad it was) and I touched it up with Molotow. Looks okayish and is a fairly decent match but it means that it's extremely delicate and the patched spots are slightly hazy compared to the rest after I gave it a clear coat.

On the other hand, there are figures that desperately want chrome. Jazz and Mirage have shoulder rockets that should absolutely be chrome. I chromed them myself and it looks good (though Mirage's didn't go on quite as smoothly in one spot) but it means I have to be super delicate with them forever. If the manufacturers had done it right and had chromed them to begin with, it would be vac metal and much more durable than anything I could do, especially after I gave it a protective clear coat.

Also, my point wasn't that figures shouldn't be painted. It was that we accept the delicate paint jobs because it makes them look better. So why do so many people not want to accept the delicate chrome that makes them look better?

What?! What did you say to me?! I never overreact and am perfectly calm and reasonable at all times, especially when it relates to this silly hobby of buying toys!!

XToon, I like that. XToon, XToy, and ... XNeon? Yeah, "G2" will do for that set!

lol it's all good, man. I am not a fan of chrome because I remember having G1 toys with chrome and how nasty they ended up tarnishing or chipping. Takara MPs with chrome had some serious flaking issues. DX9's chrome on their MP SixShot's weapons was so poorly applied they missed spots. Chrome also shows fingerprints, scratches, and dust, and it can bubble, yellow, or flake. Basically the worst of all worlds for keeping a pristine collection.

I've not seen a good reason to desire it, aside from G1 toy nostalgia. So on toy versions of figures, sure, have at it. It just doesn't seem to have a place on a toon figure that's going for the look of the cartoon where metallic grays, silvers, or yellows were used to represent silver or gold chrome applications from the toys. And the figure will likely be better off for pieces being painted rather than chromed. As you said, it's hard to match or fix chrome. It's much easier to fix a painted figure if it has the misfortune of a chip.

You're assuming the clips line up perfectly. It wouldn't surprise me if the clips are specialised so Dragstrip has to be on the left and Dead End on the right.

Oh yeah. Chrome sword. That's how it's done. Though, to be honest I got that in hopes that eventually we'll get a KO of MP36+ and I'm actually starting to get tempted to just buy MP36+ outright even at his ridiculous Takara price.

But yeah, as you say, the G1 toys had problems as they aged. I did just finish talking about how my G1 Megatrons are both worn and, if I ever do get mp36+, I definitely won't transform him.

This sword is from where? Mp36+ demands it.

Dr. Wu released both a chromed and unpainted sword for MP-36/+. I'm not certain if that's the one, though.

This has been a long time coming. I’m glad that it’s here finally. The shells are gone as promised. The paint on the arms is weird and the other images do look better. But the face looks fantastic. However I think I’m gonna go with the toy version. The silver breakup and warrior helmet will be cooler.
    Both would be perfect.
It even looks like the whole combiner body was redesigned. The surface on the legs is totally different.

I didn't know about the Dr Wu version when I bought this. I think Wu's might've looked nicer and iirc, it came with a Mini Reflector. This one is Professor Heisenberg's.
    T01C Tyrant's Blade (Chrome)

The Dr Wu sword is called Asura. BBTS only has the purple version. I found a silver version on eBay but no chrome so maybe I'm glad I ended up with the Heisenberg one.

Ah, I misremembered. Thought I had the Wu version in my PoL, but turns out it was the Heisenberg version too. I knew I ordered chrome, so I conflated the two.

Menasor looks...not good. Honestly, it looks like a janky custom job more than a professional effort.

Even with final paint and materials, I don't think the execution will look great.
