lol it's all good, man. I am not a fan of chrome because I remember having G1 toys with chrome and how nasty they ended up tarnishing or chipping. Takara MPs with chrome had some serious flaking issues. DX9's chrome on their MP SixShot's weapons was so poorly applied they missed spots. Chrome also shows fingerprints, scratches, and dust, and it can bubble, yellow, or flake. Basically the worst of all worlds for keeping a pristine collection.

I've not seen a good reason to desire it, aside from G1 toy nostalgia. So on toy versions of figures, sure, have at it. It just doesn't seem to have a place on a toon figure that's going for the look of the cartoon where metallic grays, silvers, or yellows were used to represent silver or gold chrome applications from the toys. And the figure will likely be better off for pieces being painted rather than chromed. As you said, it's hard to match or fix chrome. It's much easier to fix a painted figure if it has the misfortune of a chip.

 

You're assuming the clips line up perfectly. It wouldn't surprise me if the clips are specialised so Dragstrip has to be on the left and Dead End on the right.

 

XTB have done an amazing job cannot wait to see the final production samples, Monolith looks like he will have great articulation also.

Oh yeah. Chrome sword. That's how it's done. Though, to be honest I got that in hopes that eventually we'll get a KO of MP36+ and I'm actually starting to get tempted to just buy MP36+ outright even at his ridiculous Takara price.

But yeah, as you say, the G1 toys had problems as they aged. I did just finish talking about how my G1 Megatrons are both worn and, if I ever do get mp36+, I definitely won't transform him.

Dr. Wu released both a chromed and unpainted sword for MP-36/+. I'm not certain if that's the one, though.

 

This has been a long time coming. I’m glad that it’s here finally. The shells are gone as promised. The paint on the arms is weird and the other images do look better. But the face looks fantastic. However I think I’m gonna go with the toy version. The silver breakup and warrior helmet will be cooler.

Both would be perfect.

It even looks like the whole combiner body was redesigned. The surface on the legs is totally different.

 

I didn't know about the Dr Wu version when I bought this. I think Wu's might've looked nicer and iirc, it came with a Mini Reflector. This one is Professor Heisenberg's.
T01C Tyrant's Blade (Chrome)

The Dr Wu sword is called Asura. BBTS only has the purple version. I found a silver version on eBay but no chrome so maybe I'm glad I ended up with the Heisenberg one.

 

Ah, I misremembered. Thought I had the Wu version in my PoL, but turns out it was the Heisenberg version too. I knew I ordered chrome, so I conflated the two.

 

Menasor looks...not good. Honestly, it looks like a janky custom job more than a professional effort.

Even with final paint and materials, I don't think the execution will look great.

 

I sadly agree that the torso is to long.

Just realized g2 menasaur looks so much cooler than g1. Dammit im in for both.

 

Man.. this render with its detailing looks so much better than the actual figure. I know its accurate but that black loses all its visual detail.. hope they do something there to lift detailing visually.

 

There's a lot of little areas that will likely be filled with translucent bits. The tiny holes in the corners or along the sides are a dead giveaway. I'm sure the final version will be plenty colorful.
