Heh, I wonder if excitement for this set dates you? Like what percentage of people excited for this weren't alive in the 80s?

I mean, I'm enthused because I had these as a kid- I spent my Robot Points on these, Reflector, and the cardboard S.T.A.R.S. command center. (Sorry powerdashers, you were ugly to kid me, and maybe I would've gotten the watch if they had a Decepticon version)

Though its not just nostalgia. I love seeing MP-scaled car modes beyond the original Autobot cars. It was awesome we got Stunticons with vehicles that actually scaled with the current carbot vehicle modes. So I'm always in for more. Getting another Ferrari, an RX-7, and a Supra? Cool! I would be over the moon for Battlechargers. I had the original toys, and while it was cool to have a Firebird and Esprit, the robot modes left a LOT to be desired. So Battlechargers with a proper bot mode would be great!

Yeah even back then the powerdashers were like... why would I want this? I did kind of want the watch though.

I was very into collecting my robot points and fantasizing about what I could do with them. In the end I only ever got camshaft, no regerts.

 

Omnibots were the only announcement in the whole 2020 3rd party panel that I have my interest. DAMN EXCITED to finally have someone making them. I had all three as a kid and that was about the only Autobot cars that I had. So, these have a HUGE nostalgia factor for me and are probably the single biggest figures on my want list.

 

Oh, these are nice. Have a particularly attachment to Overdrive from nostalgia.

 

Yeah, I mailed away for Overdrive and loved that figure until some kid stole him and moved away. I'm definitely in for at least Overdrive.

Meanwhile i'm just wondering why they didn't show Downshift off. Just had to be my favorite design of the three, to boot.

I was alive in the 80s, but certainly not old enough to have played with G1 as it came out (I'm a G2 kid) and I'm still really into them. Hell, Diaclone is one of my biggest loves, so it's not all about having had it when you were 6. I just think that the Omnibots are neat designs that are a bit different from the other car robots of G1, and getting lesser-seen dudes is always a good thing to keep it fresh. It's cool how Camshaft has his passenger area still level to the ground instead of the roof forming the chest like on so many dudes (like Tracks, etc). Likewise Overdrive has the usual "hood-chest" like Sideswipe and others, but it's parallel to the ground! It's just little touches you really don't see often.

 

They said that Downshift was still in the design phase.

 

omnibots don't need to combine anymore than dinobots or throttlebots do.... so mp versions won't...but maybe in a future chug version or chugsterpiece version they will. lol.

also its not as if the omnibots never showed up again after g1. wasn't overdrive in alternators for instance?

Its not so much you had to have owned any as a kid, but every g1 kid that got a boxed transformer (as opposed to just a cardback) got a little catalogue brochure and a "reinforcements" brochure featuring the omnibots. Every g1 kid knew about the omnibots even though they didnt appear in the series or comics(as far as I know).
