Passable but the finish makes him look cheap. The insistence of Takara to paint their official MP figures (Shockwave notwithstanding) means 3rd parties should really be upping their game.

 

Well I do like that they are using yellow, and not gold like ToyWorld's does. I like ToyWorld's better just based on the looks of the bot, but I do like that yellow.

 

I'm not usually one who cares about paint and finish on a figure. But, in this case I think it's necessary. I think this figure would benifit with a premium paint job. Just my opinion. Also, that red on his helmet should be a little darker.

The alt mode on this is bigger (longer/wider) than the Toyworld one which I have (i guess toon magic). Alt mode is definitely very nice.

Curious to see final version on this one in bot mode.

 

the unpainted bright yellow and red makes it look like plastic instead of metal. Wish the colors were done like TW cosmos and FT omega.

 

Yeah. I hope they don't go the Eligos route and skimp out on premium paint.

 

Its come a long way since the early testshot. The only thing that really needs paint is the eyes and the red helmet

Still not sure if I'm going with this one or the TW one. Guess it depends on their Seaspray too...

Don't go cheap on the paint XTB.

 

I think the white paint looks matte and needs to be a gloss with no chipping as it appears. Same with the yellow on the alt mode on the panel above it. The yellow gloss paint on the diecast shins looks great. It needs paint details in the blue chest pieces and really needs a magnetic or metal flecked red paint on the helmet and blue eyes for it to pop. Eyes need to be bright blue. The light on the top of the head with the red plastic fools you and controls how it is seen. The paint with the proper finish can control the light and come across brilliantly instead of all bright/see through or dull. I think the rest of the mixture of plastics and surface finishes works.

 

The eyes will be blue right? Those ruby reds have him looking like a decepticon right now.

 

I really preferred this one to TW's initially but bought TW's simply because it was out first and I didn't really have any idea how long it would take this one to see daylight. I expected I'd probably ditch TW's once Klaatu was released. Now I'm kind of glad I got TW. This doesn't do it for me quite as much as I expected. Something about the red in particular that I really don't care for, it's too bright and orange-y. I may pick it up down the road but for now there's enough other stuff to get that I won't double-dip.

 

I need to see Klaatu and Spaceracer side by side. There's no doubt that XTB is closer to the toon. But TW have given their Cosmos so much personality! He's very a very cute little fella. I don't see that in Klaatu yet. Maybe it's just because of the (hopefully!) unfinished head of the prototype with the red eyes...
