I don't see much difference. The camera angle on the CG teaser is situated slightly above him, while the proto photo is pretty much head-on.

Yeah, then that joke didn't really land, since XTB didn't add the base mode to their trailer arbitrarily.

Looks good. I really hope the green parts are not going to be diecast though. Painted diecast thighs almost always scratch.

Between this and the Springer proto we just saw, looks like XTB's quickly moving things along this year.

XTB had a very basic base mode initially, but one of the reasons it got delayed was due to the redesign. So, some folks are jumping on that.

That very basic base mode appeared to be an entirely separate trailer from the one that formed the Combiner torso.

Again, the joke didn't land well because it isn't something that XTB does "just because". They did it for that one, very specific, and justified reason. Slapping base modes onto things isn't a "thing".

    OK. So...

Just needs an accessory pack, then it will be perfect.

Random? They were a small team of mail-order G1 Autobots. What’s random about that?

Looks pretty appropriately proportioned to me.

That they were a US exclusive mail away thing, not in the cartoon and never appeared in any published fiction outside of the mail advert at the time? In fact, was much later before they appeared in stuff like Dreamwave.

Meanwhile, there are multiple beloved characters from the G1 show that are well known are still to be touched on.

So yeah, feels like a fairly random choice in the grand scheme of things.

For some of us, the G1 cartoon is not the "origin" of Transformers. The show and comics were derived from the toys, and they themselves from other toys. The Omnibots were pretty highly coveted when I was a kid.

Regardless, you're choice of the word "random" was confusing, considering these Autobots are a very specific set of bots that comprise a team. They're typically featured together. I assume you meant they were an unusual choice for MP-like figures.

    Possibly nylon? For wear?

Nah, probably not on the parts highlighted. I don't think diecast either. While thighs and feet aren't uncommon, especially for X-Transbots, the forearms seem unlikely, especially since there's transformation joints in there.

Test shot colour assignments can be pretty random. They don't necessarily mean anything. More immediately, they can just help you discern how many different toolings are in play, and what parts belong to which tool.

At first I thought the waist was too skinny in proportion to it's chest but after looking at this pic it looks dead on. I guess I'm still use to the rectangle for a body stunticons (bd and wr). Overall looking great.

I could understand why some later on tf fans don't have an attachment to these guys, but every g1 that came in a box (just about everything but mininbots and cassettes) came with the "reinforcements" mail in brochure featuring the omnibots. So everyone was well aware of them and they were somewhat elusive. Never had them as a kid, but as an adult, I bought all three on ebay and the three powerdashers.

Good to see progress so early on, xtb can't get these out fast enough as far as I'm concerned.

I'm likewise pretty stoked. I wanted these figures as a kid, but for some reason (I don't recall), my mother wouldn't help me send out for them. I've considered several times picking up original copies on eBay, but backed out every time, feeling like it was a frivolous purchase that would be difficult to justify with my wife. As soon as these are available for pre-order, I'm putting my money down.

Because the MP scale version is far less frivolous than the original g1! ;)

Liking what I see of the first prototype! I don't think these guys will look out of place in a toon-centric OR toy-centric collection (although to be fair I often find this to be less of an issue personally than some people). Wonder how long until preorders go up?
