The silver legs look great, but it will probably scrape off around the knees after 2 transformation

 

the first versions chest is even darker than this one. you could say the first version is more toy accurate than this.

Yeah, I don't really know or care about the toy, I'm all about the toon and in spite of what XTB have named him, this "toy" version is actually a pretty good match for Windcharger's toon deco IMHO. Obviously the colour varied greatly by episode but a light grey with a hint of blue was how I saw him in my mind and this works perfectly for that.
Personally I see V2 as the "toon" version and V1 as... some random, blue repaint? I'm afraid toy guy's are being left behind on this one.

 

you're right. this new one is a v2 toon version. if it really was meant to be a toy version they would have at least painted the toy face. tf-direct even calls it cartoon version.

Does anybody think the first version (toon) of Hatch is closer in color to the animation colors on Tailgate than this second version?

I think the problem is that Windcharger was one of those characters who was coloured in the toon anywhere from pale grey to dark charcoal, depending on episode. Going off the Sunbow character model sheet, he should be a crazy dark grey, but he appeared just as often in pale grey during the cartoon. This could probably afford to be a shade or two darker, especially if it's being sold as a Toy version. Personally I don't want him to be as dark as that character model sheet though.

 

I wouldn't either. To be frank the perfect version is a slightly less blue version of the original release with silver legs.

But even if that came out I'm not sure I'd have interest in this figure. I love Windcharger--it was my first Transformer--but while I was interested in this when it was first announced I've grown very meh about it. I don't know if another company will try their hand here but I think I'm content to wait to find out.

 

As long as the qc is good and comes with a lab coat I'm in. Ok at least 1 out of 2.

A pity, because the mold itself looks amazing.

 

I agree with this, it matches this pic to a "T".

 

Give him a lab-coat and for me he's perfect - by which I mean "good enough for a character I don't really find memorable apart from that one scene in the aforementioned lab-coat".
Well that and of course this scene...

 

He was also integral to the plan in "Masquerade", but that only really required him to be there. I don't think he actually did anything of value as an actual character there, but it's been awhile since I've seen that ep.

 

True, but this release was touted as a 'toy' color version which obviously was only ever one color. I'm still thinking though that the lighting is making it appear brighter than it actually is. Either that or they heard people saying that 'grey would actually be toon accurate' and they decided to try to please everybody but edging it to a lighter toon grey. I'm actually still shocked that even the 'toy' version has a white toy face mask. That's a little ridiculous.  

IIRC it was his magnetic gizmo that held the Autobots together as a fake Menasor. He was actually really important in that episode.  

 

Some (apparently not-so) memorable Windcharger moments:

• Windcharger pulled Bumblebee out of a crevice in The Ultimate Doom.
• He and Brawn had a feature episode in Fire on the Mountain.
• Windcharger was the one who warned the Autobots about the korlonium crystals when the fake Optimus was leading the Autobots to their doom in A Prime Problem.

 

Is what I said. He was integral, but he was merely a gimmick. The episode didn't hinge on him being a character.

 

Ah I gotcha. Yeah, his 'personality' was never really explored in any episode. I suppose as Yeled points out, Fire on the Mountain was the most lines he ever had.

 

Chest is wrong color. For me, I go off the original cartoon model and TF:TM as references. In this case, they are both saying dark chest. So in essence, this V2 is no more animation accurate than V1. And sorry, I'm not holding out for a V3 for them to finally get it right, which is their reputation. Next...
