Looks fantastic! I could easily do without the added gimmicks and associated extra costs, but it looks the dogs bollocks and that's what matters most

Do they still require that odd thick AA-like battery?

The remote requires 3 x LR521 battery, if I heard correct from the video. Le Poulpe/Polpus itself requires 1 x 3.7V rechargeable lithium battery (14500). Dr. Egg requires the same 3.7V (14500) battery.

It wouldn't be nice to blow this thing up by putting the wrong battery in it. Although it would probably require you to install a non-rechargeable battery in it and then try to charge it. Anyway, just came to mind now that this New Year's Eve is going on.

For the remote...

 

That rechargable lithium battery was very difficult to come by, none of the usual stores I go by even heard of it. A photography store (of all things) managed to help me out.

 

Not that hard honestly. I got them last time and now have plenty for other figures from Walmart.com. The hardest time was figuring out what not to use. Also apparently it was hard to not use the wrong nonrechargeable battery plugging it in and making a grenade then blaming xtransbots.

Everybody double check those batteries, we don’t want any prosecutor hand grenades ruining new years!

 

It isn't often that the side profile of a bot looks the most impressive, but this is such a rare case

Using AAA batteries may have been easier, but at least XTB is sticking with the same oddball battery. Just need to dig them out. Sure hope those batteries haven't been rotting inside Dr Egg for the past year. I'll try the arms and voice once and then hopefully pull the battery once the figure goes in the display case.

 

Honestly it's kind of a shame that there isn't some way to connect this with a Dr Egg so they could do their voice lines in tandem with one another.

 

Nice. The rotating tentacles look a little daft but it’s about what I expected.
Shame they’re just re-using the same remote design over and over. Those are pretty big and take up a lot of space. It was a fun gimmick as a once off but going to get pretty irritating as more Quintesson figures are released.
I’m not sure I need both, given how similar they are in look and function. Sounds like they even use the same voice chip.
I picked up Dr Egg months after release for fairly cheap off TaoBao. Probably do the same with this guy. If they’re cheap enough I could maybe stretch to both but I doubt it.
All up, they’re kind of cool and it’s nice to see XTB branching out into the non/transforming stuff that few others have touched.
Keep it up and bring us Autobot Spike, Guardian bots as well as Sharks and Gators.
