Does anyone know about this? It's been in development hell for a few years now...most recent info indicates it will be out late next year. Supposed to be PG-13. Apparently there's a scene written where James pushes a diesel engine off a cliff, causing it to explode, so I'm guessing that's some part of why this would be PG-13.

Hmm....not sure if I should say awesome or laugh.

Just found this on the wiki. Actually kinda reminds me of the Magic Railroad.

I was all about Thomas the Tank Engine as a kid, but I don't think a "gritty" reboot is really suited that well for a franchise about trains with faces :lol
That said, the show did get kind of brutal at times...

With all the trucks getting their shit wrecked it's probably got a higher body count than any action movie, haha.

This sounds so completely bonkers, like somebody's twisted "real" take on Thomas and Friends that throws them into the middle of WWII actually is getting turned into a film.

    That said, the plot does sound something similar to other movies of a certain nature. From the Thomas Wiki;
It's like a mix of Peter Pan, Narnia, James and the Giant Peach, Where the Wild Things Are, and what little of the framing plot I can remember from Cirque du Soleil's Quidan.

Actually, to be accurate, Thomas's template engine is the E2 Class 0-6-0T tank engine, which first entered service at the end of WWI and survived into the early 60's. Diesels were introduced as early as 1937 but only a small handful were in-service during WWII because of shortages.

I blame Transformers, because if any of this information I'm finding is accurate, the original plans for War Thomas involved launching a new, more 'grown up' version of the series in both TV show and toyline forms.

So this would be a reverse of the late 1980s trend of converting rated R movies in Cartoons for kids?

Thomas the Tank Engine in WWII. Fuck. No.

Thomas was a Pinnacle to my early Childhood before transformers. Have a Reboot that would Attract a Modern Audience.

Just because it's set in WWII doesn't mean we'll see fighting or anything like that. Could just be the chosen time period. Or I could be wrong and we could see Thomas run over Nazis, decapitating them in the process, but we'll see.

I looked on the Thomas wiki and they said that "Toys for an older audience is planned".

All aboard the Transformers band wagon!

I don't see why there would be a problem in principle with a Thomas film set in WW2 given that most of the characters would have been around in that period anyway, but trying to turn it into something other then mild family entertainment is just beyond ridiculous.

Because Battleship did so well. Oh, wait.

Frankly, the fact this movie is in development hell and the closest possible release date if it hasn't been canceled (HIT has publicly stated that the status of the movie is still up in the air, neither confirmed nor canceled) is a speculated October 2015, any toy plans that were made are probably now trashed as there isn't anything solid about the film, not even the previously announced appointment of Shane Acker as the director is a confirmed fact anymore.

The problem with trying to justify the WWII setting is that, while the majority of the core locomotives date to the turn of the century 1900s, the colors aren't even remotely appropriate for wartime service and, amusingly, there would only be engine no.s 1-5 as according to official materials, Percy wasn't added to the fleet until 1949.

Additionally, there is a distinct lack of information on the in-universe state of Sodor during WWII, and I suspect that's very much intentional.

Sorry to revive, but anyone heard any news on this? I can't find anything. Starting to wonder if it's still happening.
