First, I want to congratulate you all, especially dear Army of Bees, for catching back up to the point of releasing an episode the month it was recorded. I know stuff has been rough for a while and I just wanted you to know the effort is noticed and appreciated. Also, I’m glad Chris agrees that the Scraphook mold is one of the most frustrating toys in this line. And here I am hoping for a Nancy recolor of Axelgrease anyway because I like to hurt myself I guess.
I really should get my name changed here at some point. EDIT: Pbtbhtbtbbt. Nevermind! Knowing that the podcast is still enjoyed by its listeners nearly 15 years after it started (and two years after I began to edit it) is honestly all the thanks I want or ever need for this. Tangent time! There’s been several things Behind The Scenes that have made the podcast significantly more difficult that have all been mostly ironed out- Audacity is no longer a factor, the baby is here and healthy and just had her two month check-up, and weirdly being “part of” the show the last two years has dragged me from being apathetic and burnt out when it comes to toy collecting to actively preordering and trying new shit again. Most of you have been extremely helpful with navigating issues and troubleshooting making this show back to the quality it was both when Vangelus (and for while I think GogDog did the odd episodes?) did the editing themselves. I’m not happy with the inconsistencies and technical hurdles I’m still having with DarkAudacity and my PC finally starting to show it’s age, but as long as each episode is an improvement I’m happy. (also I barely check TFW aside from the podcast thread and catching up on news each weekend, and I really don’t think it’s right to put my info in the podcast description. If there’s any issues it’s easier to catch me on Elon Musk’s Dumpster Fire or BlueSky. Same name.)
For the record, a day or two after this episode I did have a forehead smack moment of “how did I never notice?!?” Alphie and I were watching Car Robots for some ‘olde TFW nostalgia and I realized that Fire Convoy’s regular mode head is totally a Japanese fire fighter’s helmet.
Lucky Cat MC-03 Beast Lord, who surely may or may not have more power and force that’s ever been seen before. Legally speaking.
I have been advised by council to state that 5 teenagers with attitude are not a legally definable team. Even if they consistently wear mono-chromatic clothing for no apparent reason.
The sticks used in Kali (also called Arnis or Escrima) are called Bastons. Not sure if that's what TJ was thinking of. The equivalent in Japanese martial arts is called a Tanbō. Baston (weapon) - Wikipedia Tanbō - Wikipedia
I think TJ's audio dropped out for a few sentences about a half hour or so from the end of the episode. I think my biggest forehead smack moment was when I was at a convention, and I traded my Classics Optimus Prime for a MIB BWN Saberback, only to realize hours later that it was missing, like, four of its back plates.
It could be argued that those teenagers are just evacuating the area like everyone else. But they went a different direction. That bright colored lights that correspond with their clothing choices and oddly with those spandexed fighters is coincidental.
I can think of two forehead smack moments right off the top of my head. The joke that TM2 Prowl is an owl. G1 Mirage doesn't have a pharoah helmet, he has Sunstreaker ears. Vangelus' 3P name is obviously Pat Lee.
Thanks for the heads up on the Armada Megatron upgrade kit. I went and ordered the files and printed them myself. It's amazing how much life and dynamism it adds to the figure.
I really loved the Legacy Armada Megatron, but I had a bit of a realization when messing with him. After ordering him but before he arrived, I messed with the old combiner wars leader armada megatron for the first time in a long while and really enjoyed reexperiencing him. Then when I was messing with the Legacy one, I found that he reminded me so much of the orginal figure that the "new toy" neurons in my brain weren't as excited as when I messed with the combiner wars one. That one was a truly inspired redeco that completely transformed the figure from g1 to armada. I think I'm finding that super accurate modern versions of unicron trilogy toys don't hit me as well because they often feel "same but different" as opposed to "all new". I felt much more engaged with Axlegrease and Scraphook then I did with legacy armada prime or megatron because they felt like they were a new experience for me. As someone who owns the entire Cybertron line and loves armada and cybertron more than anything else in Transformers, I'm feeling more and more unintrested in legacy Unicron trilogy remakes because they just dont feel new.
So this has come up in a few Discords the last few weeks, and I think we're going to experience this kind of thing more and more- especially as Transformers is starting to redo more modern lines as basically "Toy X + Joints" or "Toy X + Modern G1 Style" becomes more and more of the norm. It's like some sort of Transformers Design Event Horizon, where eventually rather than having more and more unique designs and takes on characters... it all just becomes super blurry and it's harder for something to stand out the longer time goes on.
