I agree but considering the time when the show was airing, I highly doubt that would go over well with parents of kids watching the show.

 

trust me parents are barely paying attention to what their kids are watching and nowadays there's LGBT representation in almost every cartoon.

 

This thread demonstrates one of several reasons I dislike shipping in Transformers fiction, because it tends to dominate discussion to the exclusion of all else. 90% of this thread so far focuses around one background panel with two characters kissing. In reading this thread I have no real idea what the issue is about or whether it's good or bad (I haven't been to the shop to pick it up yet), but I sure do know that one panel. It can't possibly merit this much focus to the exclusion of everything else in the issue.
 

 

For people celebrating the first MLM kiss in the franchise's history, yes, it merits a lot of focus.

I'd just like to see some balanced discussion here. If the only thing about the issue that merits discussion is the kiss, it's not much of an issue, is it?

Heavens to Betsy it's a kiss folks. From a fan favorite couple in an issue with a ton of other shout outs to past entries in the franchise. It's not that complicated.

To be honest its mostly the anti shippers in this thread dragging it out and over complicating things with all the crying and shaking they're doing because they don't want to see two guys kissing in their comic book. Don't blame the shippers. We weren't the ones yodeling from the rooftops about how ~confused~ we were as to why a pre established couple got literally one panel of PDA and demanding that we need an entire story arch to explain a frickin smooch.

 

What website are you reading, cause I'm on the one where we have 2-3 active shipping discussion threads in the middle of thousands of other threads about other things and we still can't keep people from coming in there just to tell us they hate shipping or evaluate our moral fitness based on what we ship.

Blue text for deniability aside, I know I'm cool because I haven't gone mediaeval even once in some of these discussions.

There wouldn't be so much discussion about the kiss if some people were willing to just accept that it was one panel and even though they may not personally like that panel, it is deeply important to the people who now feel that much more welcome and much more seen and respected by the creators of their favourite franchise, at least until they run into this kind of argumentation against ... one freaking panel, just because some other people really, really liked it. How dare people like things that make them feel seen and respected?

We know some people think that robots shouldn't kiss or fall in love. Repeating that over and over is not going to make any fans who disagree with you change their mind and it won't make the IDW writers stop doing it.

I wish everyone who feels this way would go and make a thread (like our shipping threads we made specifically so that we could talk about shipping without bothering people who hate it) for people who hate robots kissing or falling in love so you could all go there to vent instead of starting this argument every time somebody says that they like a romantic moment in canonical material. I promise you none of the robot romance lovers will go there to bother y'all, we already know what you said, we're happy to let you validate one another in peace.

Fucking 100%. There are exactly two active threads about shipping currently on this website. TWO. One of them doesn't even mention shipping by name. And yet people still insist that shipping is dominating TFW and driving out all the "real" discussions when that just isn't true. Like seriously, what website are you using? Because the vast majority of users here are either indifferent or hostile towards shipping.

Since you find such tropes highly unnatural and uncomfortable I would recommend avoiding such topics in the future for the sake of your own well-being.

 

Indeed. For all that's made about it, it's literally one panel at the end of the comic. It doesn't seem like a big deal to me.

I could be a little wrong on this, but kissing is an oral expression of affection, and is generally a primate thing. Most animals don't kiss like people do, so it's does seem kind of strange for (alien) robots to do it. Transformers do act very humanly though, so I take it as a matter of preference... Personally, I'll be bothered if in the next issues, there's a scene of Hot Shot and Ricochet telling potty jokes while using a cybertroninan urinal.

All that aside, I have so far not enjoyed this comic very much. The story telling seems a little ham-fisted, and I find this cast (especially Thunderclash) very annoying. The dialog too, strikes me as being pretty weak, for example, there's one panel where Minerva's rambling to Thunderclash about how scared she is, and how real the danger is, and on and on... Did she have to say all of this for it to be portrayed? It doesn't feel natural to me at all.

Also, minor thing, but still: there's about four or five panels where Minerva's sideburns are miscolored. That really bugs my OCD.

On a more positive note, I do like some of the setting/background art, so I'll probably keep reading.

Are we getting a Leadfoot toy? I noticed he's pretty obviously modeled after Kingdom Mirage.

 

They've been doing cheek kisses since G1 *shrug* it's not new. Only new thing was that it was KOBD, two male-identified robots.

 

I didn't say it was new though... I just said that it was a matter of preference for how humanized you want the transformers to be.

Bumblebee peed on a guy in the '07 movie. They should have Hot Shot tell potty jokes and pee on someone.

 

Like I quickly mentioned earlier, this is a different cybertron than we're used to, where organics live alongside cybertronians. They could have just picked up kissing from the fleshies and it made its way out to colony worlds like Velocitron.

 

This conversation is getting boring and circular, but equating a kiss to urination is a new one on me.

My point: you can't say "transformers don't kiss each other" because we've seen them do it.

Your point: peeing on other people is also exactly as humanised a behaviour as kissing, somehow?

They probably do excrete some kind of waste, given that they consume fuel.

The reason that most writers don't choose to include this aspect of their existence in new canon is that peeing on other people is not something most people want to see characters do. Or normally done in public. Or ever.
