If the movie Superman lives was to exist would you be happy with that? It would be released in 1997 I think and would have Nicolas Cage as Superman. Also hypothetically lets say if this did exist it would have no impact on other superhero movies. Superman Returns and Man Of Steel would both be made at the the same time. This movie would just simply exist and nothing more.

Would you want that to happen? I saw way not.

yes. i would rather have it then man of steel.

Nic Cage at the top of his game, abso-fucking-lutely would I have seen it. Plus, in 1997, I was a junior in high school, and saw damn near ever movie released in the theater that year. Hell, I'd skip school and go watch three-to-four movies in a row.

Lets see, can't fly, few super powers, is basically Batman from Krypton. Has a suit where you can see his internal organs. Has to fight Jon Peter's Giant spider, producer has a toys toys toys mentality. Wanted Braniac to fight Polar Bears, and have a gay robot sidekick.I have posted huge info on how bad this movie was going to be, so NO glad it was never made, it would have made Superman Returns and Man of Steel look like masterpieces of plot and film work in comparison. It would have gone down as the Batman and Robin of Superman movies. Link so I don't have to post the whole thing again

Okay I may get flack for this but I actually do think Nic Cage could have played a good Clark Kent. As for Superman? Maybe if he got good direction and pulled back on his more over the top quirks then it could of worked. It would have been a different Superman then we had previously but that doesn't mean it would have been bad.

The film, no. Reading and seeing what was being done for it, I can't see it working.

That, pretty much. Granted, there's aspects of it that I think could have worked if they had been left in hands far more capable than those of Jon Peters or Tim Burton - Cage as Superman (yes, I said it and I don't deny it), the downgraded super powers (the original 1938 Superman wasn't all that powerful either), even the giant spider seemed workable once Kevin Smith re-spun it into a Thanagarian Snare Beast from Brainiac's menagerie - but it's the whole Batmanification of the deal that bothers the hell out of me more than anything and does still to this very day, because now more than ever that's DC's all-purpose plan for Making Superman Cool.

I like Superman because he's NOT Batman.

It really depends which script your going bye. I have read the KS script and it a pritty good read. Also i was born in 1996 and growing up my parants had superman the movie (1978) on vhs so growing up i was hooked on superman. I would have loved this movie to come out.
Also he does not have the rainbow Suit all the time in the script. also the film would of been a serious tone vs the campy B&R.

Nic Cage as Superman? Even if I'd been old enough to have seen it in '97, I still don't think I'd be interested. Besides, I was more into Batman at that point.

Superman might be a comic book icon and he had a pretty cool animated series, but for a lot of reasons it's insanely hard to make a really good Superman movie. Going insane with everything just doesn't seem like the formula for a great film. Although oddly it might not be the craziest thing they have ever done with Superman.

    It certainly does.

Also, I'm proud of TFW for not unanimously voting No on this subject.

I find it hard to believe that any of us actually old enough to have seen it, if it had been released in 1997, would have passed up on the first Superman movie in decade no matter the quality.

And yeah, a lot ideas for it sucked, but they only preproduction what if ideas. Half of them wouldn't have made it to the final product.

    Yeah sure why not.

It probably was going to be shit anyways but at least Nick Cage would have made it hilarious.

Also Michael Keaton was going to have a camo as batman yet again in the film it self
I think besides the dvelopment hell the film was going trough it was the negative feedback of B&R that killed the film.

    Kevin Smith's script? Yes.

Literally anything before or after that? No.
