One of the things I kind of miss with the current gimmick-based lines of Generations is the possibiliy for repaints from older lines. Don't get me wrong, I love the current lines, but it was nice to see them go back and do things like the rest of the seekers or anything like that.

The seekers were my primary inspiration for this question. I'd love to see "FOC" versions of at least Acid Storm and Sunstorm. But I know there are other underutilized molds like Orion Pax that people really want repaints of. I'm sure we could also get more Combiner Wars versions of numerous charaters.

So would anyone else be interested in a line like this? I'm more curious about the interest, as I have doubts that such a line would ever be done nowadays, but feel free to speculate about the possibility as well.

 

I never really bought anything from the universe 1.0 line. And while I agree some older molds could deserve a shot at rerelease, I think what you're really asking for is "what mold could use a new release?"

For me, some UT stuff could be good. Energon Galvatron is probably still my favorite Galvatron, so I could see him coming back. Vector Prime is an old favorite of mine, but I'd almost rather see him remade than rereleased at this point. And while Armada Unicron gets trotted out on the regular, Cybertron Primus is really about due for a new release. G2 Lazer Optimus Prime in some proper colors would be welcome too. (I always thought they could do a movie prime redeco of him but it never happened.)

As far as a whole line goes, Hasbro's platinum edition "year of..." series was pretty much filling this role for me until it went off the rails with "Year of the Goat." But then again, the platinum editions line is still kind of doing this, with recent releases of the cyclonus, scourge and sweep set, the One shall stand one shall fall set, and the 86 autobots set.

 

Yes what I am really asking is "what mold could use a new release?" Problem is, right now the classics line is based on gimmicks, so releasing older toys isn't doable.

Also I think they have a bootleg of G2 Lazer Prime in the movie colors.

The only problem I have with the "platinum edition is like a new Universe" thing is that they're mostly "remakes." Which only fill holes if you don't already have the figures. Stuff like the cyclonus set are a nice start though (execution aside.) Oh, and of course they're stupidly priced, which kind of ruins the remake aspect of it for me...but that's beside the point.

 

As I absolutely love the Universe 1.0 line (yes, love, not loved), I would welcome another full-on repaint only line w/ open arms.

Just so long as we get a Universe 1.0 repaint of Masterpiece Primal.

 

If it means getting redecos we never got from earlier molds (Diaclone, G2, Machine wars, random characters) and are unlikely to get without a Club equivalent or Platinum sets changing quite a bit, then yes I'm definitely in.

If it's random made-up characters or decos, then I may pick and choose some here and there, but otherwise nah I'd probably skip most.

 

I wouldn't mind a return to TFU 1.0. It would be a great way to get older style molds that might not fit in with whatever the current gimmic the Generations line has now (and would hopefully be a bit cheaper than club exclusives or Platinum releases). With NuRID, Generations, and within the year Last Knight toys hitting shelves, might have to keep a new TFU 1.0 as some kind of exclusive like HTS or maybe at smaller retail chains like Dollar General (like the repacked Cybertron/Energon releases from years ago).

Also think it would be a great way not only to release maybe some repaints as older lesser known characters from other series (such as a reimagined Cybertron Signal Lancer) or maybe some brand new characters without having to wedge them into some kind of fiction.

 

I'd buy GDO Swerve retooled as Firestar, GDO Springer retooled as Rotorstorm, the FOC Seekers mold redecoed Cybertronian Hotlink, Bitstream, Sunstorm, Nacelle & Air Warriors, Generations Tracks retooled Loud Pedal or Vivisector, Junkion variations retooled from the Wreck-Gar / Junkheap from Generations, Stranglehold retooled from Generations Rhinox and not sure off hand but sure there is more I'd like

 

I think you forgot that Universe 1.0 was repaints only.
So, if a new Universe 1.0 line happened, there would be no retools.

 

It might be a good excuse to use the unused pre-tool heads, though.

 

Hell yes. I own GDO Swerve and he's just out there enough to make me crave for a modern line of bizarre redecos/retools.

 

Not as familiar with the line as I thought...well in that case I'd probably want to see the Seekers still...and...the Tracks redeco...not alot else I can think of...

 

Maybe we could even get some "Shattered Glass" stuff now that the Club is gone.

 

I had the same thought recently, Universe was a great idea with some poor execution and I'd like to see it given another shot. The repaints could rescue molds with crappy paint jobs, molds that would have worked better as other characters, repaints that we all wanted but never received, and most of all some unique-character repaints.

Off the top of my head:
Cybertron Prime as Motormaster, Energon Skywarp as Thundercracker and Skywarp, Cybertron Megatron as Overlord, CW Bruticus as RID Ruination, G Rhinox as Stranglehold, CW Megatron as G2 Megatron, Darth Maul Styled Cybertron Vector Prime, Deluxe Unicron as Skullgrin, E Landmine as Rodimus Prime, you get the idea...

 

I'd love to see a line that introduces new bots and maybe homaging lesser known bots. Maybe using the used/unused toolings of older figures.

Also, making Deluxe/Minicon, Battle and combiner packs could be great.

I think the armada background dudes would be perfect for this line. For the Deluxe/Minicon packs.

If it meant some gap-filling could take place relatively inexpensively then I'd be all for it. CW Bluestreak, Sideswipe and Ratchet would make me very, very happy and I would rather this path than more expensive/exclusive options.

Universe was the first line i really started collecting, would love more like it. im all for a mix of "slot filling" redecos, and brand new redeco characters.

continuing the "story" (or fitting into it somehow) would also be a plus for me.

I think I'd like something like this, yeah. I mean, I'd never have got a Classics Thrust or Dirge or Ramjet without Universe. Plus while I have a set of Classics Battlechargers, they really are rare and everyone should have a chance to have some Runabout/Runamuck action in their lives. Also we're all due a new proper headed Punch/Counterpunch. While I like my TFSS version even I can't ignore the fact he's a pinhead. And when... I saw... (I forget his name) giving a talk at a convention last year where he confirmed that the Punch/Counterpunch head was all wrong it kinda made it all worse.
