I've been bouncing this idea around for a little while now and thought I'd throw it out here. Would it be a waste of a MOC Wreck Gar to crack open and give him an amber paint job? Thoughts and opinions appreciated!
Might i suggest a generations junkheap? Just remove the yellow paint apps, give him a wreck gar head ad paint him metallic red
It's your figure. If you want to open it up, paint it up like a rainbow, go for it. If you bought an extra and would prefer to sell it, you may want to consider that option as well. Honestly, you don't seem completely sold on the idea of making a custom from it. If you do, I saw just go for it. RtS Wreck-gar isn't crazy rare. Even if it was and it's your figure, it's yours to do with as you wish. As for it "being a waste", well . . . that all depends on what kind of job you do on it.
I was thinking about borrowing some of the red parts from Junkheap, but I'd hate take two figures apart when I really can do some paint layering to get a red that will pop. Thanks though man! Thanks man! I'm going to do it, I appreciate the nudge. I wasn't too sold on it, as it's a fairly simple repaint, but I do have some ideas to have some fun with it. I was thinking he was still kind of sought after, so I'm going to release him from his plastic coffin and get to work.
Awesome! I think what you could do is use a Krylon Fusion red, and then do some subtle red washes/dry brush after the base has dried/cured. I'd also recommend masking off the clear parts, and then going over those with a translucent red. Another set of easy repaints that would go along with this well would be a Rodimus and an Optimus. Rodimus from the BiS set is already a bright red, so much of the work is done there. Just finish that one off with more red! Optimus could be easily done with the new Henkei Magnus, a junker Magnus from Classics, or even from one of those KOs. Just make sure he's coated as much as he can be to protect himself from Rodimus and Wreck-gar while he tries to get the Matrix back!
Pretty close to my plan! What I wanted to do so that he wasn't just a flat red was do a light dusting of chrome silver on his body parts that don't have any paint aps or major detailing, then once those are dried unleash a can of tamiya spray clear red, as well as the translucent parts. I'm actually letting the right leg parts soak as I type to remove the factory paint so there will be more translucent red to shine thru. If I can get my hands on a BiS set, my FOC Shockwave will be taller and that Hot Rod a Hate Plague baller!
