Inspired by this thread: Worst Optimus
The worst toy versions of any character.
Any line goes.
The OG worst character toy:
Universe Galvatron comes to mind..
SPICY MODE: any figure of Magnus that is just a white and blue Optimus without the armor feature is the worst Magnus, because it doesn't represent him nearly as well as even a figure that only offers his armored-up mode like the Masterpiece or the Combiner Wars toy.
Non spicy takes, I would say the Combiner Wars versions of Prowl and Ironhide were the worst modern versions thereof, given how little they actually resembled the characters as opposed to just being a new mold with an old character's head and color scheme, and the need to combine really hampered the transformations. Hypocritically, I really liked that version of Trailbreaker.
Movie Ratchet : ROTF Deluxe Ratchet
Totally botches the alt-mode for a robot mode that isn't very accurate anyway (too lanky, bad kibble management).
Movie Lockdown : AOE Deluxe Lockdown
Wrong color. No hook. Wrong proportions. Ugly face. Lazy transformation. Looks nothing like Lockdown at all. Truly the worst of what's possibly the worst Movie toyline ever since DOTM.
Soundwave: Titans Return
Out of scale with pretty much everything, tiny face/huge head, less boxy and more fat-suit looking, wrong weapon...
Shockwave: Fall of Cybertron
Always hated that design, even more than Energon Shockblast. Skinny, terrible alt mode and red eye.
Megatron: Titans Return
Starscream: Prime Voyager
The FE version was soooo much nicer.
Hot Rod: PotP
Just awful all around. Made the Classics one look like a MP.
Lockdown: AoE Deluxe
Grimlock: PotP Voyager
Awesome alt mode from the torso up. The rest, plus the bot mode are a total disappointment.
Nautica: Titans Return, did the designers even look at a picture of her for reference?
Crankcase: Studio Series, I love this toy-line to death but the one mistake they have made was making Crankcase a Crowbar repaint when they have the Berzerker mold from TLK to use still...
Chromia: War for Cybertron: Siege, the T30 figure is vastly superior, she isn't a blatant combiner limb with the gimmick gutted from her.
Megatron - Titanium GI Joe Megatron
Combiner wars Deathsaurus (Dezarus), just... why??
CW Warpath, it was way too small and it didn't have the barrel of the tank in his chest!
Any Legend figure pre and post Titans Return/POTP are the worst version of most characters.
Masterpiece Ravage. Doesn't deserve the masterpiece title as it can't open and close it's mouth. That said, the Device Label mold may as well have a jaw made of gold plastic.
Actionmaster Inferno. I never liked the no collar look.
Pretender Jazz. Inner robot is terrible.
Pretender Grimlock. See Jazz.
CW Hot Rod. Too small and you can't attach the axe weapon vertically to his back to use as his iconic spoiler.
CHUG 2-pack or Robotmasters Optimus Prime.
Chug Voyager Bludgeon.
Most modern Bludgeons for basing the robot mode on the shell.
CHUG Skullgrin. See Bludgeon.
Combiner Wars Ultra Magnus. Too small and I'm not a fan of Minimus Ambus or Alpha Trion. Especially Alpha Trion.
Titans Return Ravage. Though I'm still contemptuous of MP Ravage, who thought Titans Return Ravage was worth selling.
I'd argue FOC is worse, although he's only G1 based if you see him as IDW Jazz. The POTP version had better proportions, the right colors, and the car mode is honestly pretty nice. Both have transformation schemes that are pretty rough though. The FOC version also has an oddly big torso and skinny legs. The design itself could've made a good toy, but it did not translate well, sadly.
I'd also toss in Titanium Soundwave with Laserbeak.
G1 Ironhide/ ratchet
I would counter that with DotM Bumblebee. I know a lot of people sing its praises because it's not as tall and lanky as Battle Blades, but there's a number of things I've always hated that mold for:
Lack of paint
Hindered head movement (and that it looks like his head is sunken down into his shoulders)
The completely silver face that clashes with everything else on the figure
No real way to lock his backpack in, and it doesn't really collapse at all (Same issue with DotM deluxe Ratchet)
The stupid racing nets in the windows
I also hated the Mechtech weapon, but I pretty much hated all of them, so I can't fault this toy in particular for it. But if all the above issues were fixed, he might be one of the best Bees from the movie lines.
Megatron: I have to give it to the original G1 toy. While the gun mode is phenomenal, the robot mode is just too skinny and flimsy. I love the detailed look, but the figure just isn't stable enough to be fun.
I'd forgotten about Titanium Soundwave and I wholeheartedly agree.
Every FOC Combiner figure, Combaticon or Wrecker, in any configuration, is the worst version of that character. Fact.
I still like them though.
Universe Octane. Just awful. I like Octane as he was my only Triple Changer but I wish I'd never bought this POS.
Agreed, they should have used this mould for Slammer instead. If I find a second one cheap I'm repainting him as such. Makes for a nice little Megatron though.
