i'm watching real sports right now..

in brazil.. the people there REALLY don't want the world cup there.. they've spent BILLIONS of dollars to make new stadiums that will only be used for 4 matches. people are furious.. that's crazy.

    it was very enlightening.

anyways. i've never been a soccer fan, good for those who are.. but i'll stick with hockey, football, and baseball.

does. not. compute. World Cup is football :)

I think they're going about this all wrong. Let's face it, every team except Germany is gonna be out of the cup eventually! Transformers could be marketed as a consolation! "out of the World Cup? Feeling low? then go watch giant fucking robot dinosaurs smash up Hong Kong!!" :D

    BayFormers... Football... BayFormers... Football...

Oh, how will I ever decide which to be unenthusiastic about most?

Maybe they should've dropped the knight theme and given Optimus a football instead. Gotta get that football hooligan ticket sale somehow. Movie ticket or football ticket.

I'm sure if the movie really is that good people will make time to see it as well as go see some people kicking a ball around.
Presumably they can use the stadiums to host events other than just the World Cup?

I absolutely loath football! I just can't stand it! If it interferes with the UK release in any way shape or form I WILL BE FURIOUS!

If this is the reason the UK is getting the movie so late, I am going to be very angry. Hell, I am already pissed off.

On the topic of release dates. Does anyone think there is a way to get them to push the release of the movie in the UK forward? It is possible for movies to be pushed forward, it happened to TASM2 here in the UK.

For the love of god it's not soccer, it will never be soccer and I dont even think the word is in touch with the game of football. I dont see it as a problem if the release has been delayed here in the UK due to the world cup. I like watching football so what's better to blow away the world cup blues than to watch some big robot dinosaurs ripping some decepticons to shreads after the football has finished

Same - never had an interest in football and it seems really idiotic to move the film based on the showing of a sports match. It shows their target audience though... :L

From a financial perspective, it makes TONS of sense. You may not like football, but the majority of people would choose watching world cup football over Transformers any day every day, even if/when their team gets knocked out.

From a financial perspective the target audience of the film is children and young teenagers - delaying the release of the film just gives audiences in over countries the chance to write unfavourable reviews that will turn off the target demographic or audience.

The movie is bound to make around near $800M easily and people have methods of recording the World Cup... I don't see why a sporting event should result in the delaying of a movie being shown at Cinema's (Noting that movies are shown in cinema multiple times in the day and that the World Cup would not overlap all these showings)

Personally having the movie delayed over and over just tends to annoy me - especially if it means its released somewhere else first allowing for the film to be spoiled easily. If I supported football at all I'd have the brains to just record it and watch it later like any other TV show.

I understand fan support but taking it to the level where the predicted fan support of children and young teenagers who would rather miss out on a film they like because of a football game seems to speak tons about what they believe their franchise's quality truly is - especially when they believe a large enough portion of their fan base lies in children and young teenagers who value football so highly that it would mean a majority loss on their film profits.

The people watching the World Cup would be able to see the film at a different time anyway - so not sure why it means they have to delay the film in certain locations - thus weakening their ability to hit high opening week sales.
