Somebody just gave me this thing called a cubebot for a Christmas present. It's a bunch of wooden blocks connected with elastic cords, so it has crazy articulation and can fold up into a perfect cube. After fiddling with it I realized that if it had another couple slots cut in on the sides of the hips to let the legs fold to the sides, it could fold into a perfect looking tapedeck, so I cut them. It's the exact same size as the real thing in both modes. Now I just need to decide how to paint/sticker it, and maybe make him a gun and shoulder cannon out of dowels. Whatever I do it will need to be highly resistant to scratching. Ideas? I'm thinking maybe some kind of printed labels might work...
I just had an idea that will make this thing 100x cooler. Since the blocks can spin and can have almost any face showing out at any time, I can make him have more than one robot and alt mode. Hello, double changer Optimus Prime/Soundwave! This is going to be fun.
lmao! this looks like a whole lot of fun. And for the record, this is what Transformers should be like.
No, he decided to get a downgrade to enjoy a simple, technology-free lifestyle. Anyways, this sounds cool. Can't wait to see how this turns out.
That's a good idea, but I have no idea how I would do that while making it look good. I don't have wood tools for detailing like that and I would likely ruin it. I'm pretty sure I'm just going to design some labels and print them on sticker stock. I'm usually not a fan of cutesy/chibi stuff, but now that I've seen what this is capable of I can't NOT do it.
I was going to say essentially the same thing, but with wood burning. I don't think anyone can deny that a decepticon logo burned in would look awesome. But yeah, you'd have to have a steady hand. So stickers would be the easier option.
That has to be a Futurama reference! I love this idea. I'd want to take it a step further, and make it into a wood-framed decepticon TV set from the 80's.
You should paint a base coat in blue/silver, then apply sticker details (buttons, chest, face, etc.) over top.
I agree about just etching the details. I also think it'd be awesome if you put him on strings like a puppet.
