Yeah, I pretty much abandoned WIZARD once they let all their best regular features fall to the wayside - even "Casting Call" was still an entertaining read before their casting picks for every comic book movie down the pike amounted to little more than WWE wrestlers and Playboy centerfolds. I stuck with TOYFARE almost to the end, though.

When it stopped being a price guide but a glorified mouth piece for marvel and dc was when I gave up. Oh that and the Internet.

I stuck with Toyfare right up to the end. I can't remember when I started buying it but I still have a huge stack of them.

I thought Wizard went out of business years ago which is why they had canceled Toy Fare Magazine.

Nope they just refocused their funds/business to their Con business since their mags weren't doing as well anymore.

No fees. Also, no chargebacks. Also seems easier to lie on taxes.

Only-cash transactions seems mighty shady for a respectable business.

WW has been a sinking ship for a while now. I think the last straw was when they had a Comic Con Cruise planned, announced guests, took reservations and then had to cancel the entire thing when the announced celebs backed out. They took their sweet time issuing refunds to attendees as well, which was a huge talking point.

Wizard World Comes to Their Senses, Cancels Cruise Con

Here in on the west coast, WW used to have 4 cons: Reno, San Jose, Sacramento and Portland. There might have been one in SD or LA, I can't remember. I think Sacramento and Portland are the only remaining shows and those on life support.

I was done with WW when they started announcing cancellations of their big-named guests at the last minute. I attended several shows, and it coincidentally seemed that the really big stars were always the guests to cancel, and WW didn't inform attendees until the 11th hour. Even worse, they didn't offer refunds on badges, so if you were attending for one guest and they cancelled, you were SOL... and now, it seems, so are they. Seems kind of apropos.

I have never been a wizard world fan, because the price gauging and how they have guests there that you can only meet if you buy a premium $500 package. It is garbage. That said, I hope they at least make it to September so that they can have their show in Nashville, so I can meet Kevin Conroy and Loren Lester(Batman and Robin from Batman the animated series). My luck they cancel, but oh well I don't pre-buy tickets.

Which is funny, because the only thing deader than print media is traveling hours to buy old comic books in person rather than over the internet at your leisure. Maybe next they'll refocus their funds/business away from Cons and into VHS rentals.

Yeah, you're right. Cons also allow you to attend panels, where you can find out news and information the rest of the world will also hear on the internet the very same day. And it also gives you an excuse to dress up like Naruto. So yay for that. And let's not forget about all the video games and toys. Because surely those things exist nowhere else in the world. Cons are the best.

Dude! You really need to get out and experience things a little bit.....

I'll admit this shit was better 20 years ago because comics weren't cool, nor were Transformers, Star Wars or anything else of the same nature. That aside, you meet up with folks in your area, you BS, you shit talk, you have fun with your favorite genre and go home.

I've been there, done that on most of them in the Chicago area, but I burned our after going to them all repeatedly lol

I've been to every SDCC since 1988, minus maybe 4 or 5 of them. Now more out of habit than for fun.

And you no longer need cons for this.

Con Fatigue go to enough of them and most of it is predictable. Yet you still want to go. I remember the old days when it was more exciting. Now it still has it moments, but after awhile it starts to seem like an obligation.
Haven't gone to SDCC in two years...tell myself it's a waste of money....will still be trying to get tickets again this year.
