Hi people, later today I'll be starting another custom. This is Mega Man X6's Commander Yanmark. I really like this guy. He's got a great design, a fun stage and fight, a great musical theme and...what's this? A shield weapon that's actually good?! Witchcraft I tell you! He's going to be made from Marvel's Wasp. There's some things I'm not sure if I can do, like the bubble eyes on top of the helmet, or the rings around the arms. I definitely can't add a tail, as my sculpting skills are non- existent. But I'll try to make it as close as I can. I love dragonflies, they have such awesome, metallic colors. So of course the main color will be a lovely, metallic green.
I see improvment from previous customs. Like it. But when can we get a splash woman, official or not?
Haha! But I've barely started on him. Splash Woman? Err...I'm not good enough to scuplt mermaid tails for robots.
Yes we do. She's awesome. We still need some of well...everybody really. How has Metal Man not gotten one yet?
I haven't been able to find concept art of his back, so I'll just hafta make do. Started adding green to the legs, front of the helmet, antennae, back and feet. I sure wish this toy stood better. Lesson learned, do one side at a time. I'm gonna keep the antenna. It really adds to the bug look, and I don't think it'll snip off as easily as Hero Masher Boba Fett's anyway. I do like that this toy has obvious sections to it. It makes it easier to decide where to put the paint since the proportions aren't bulky and simple like a reploid's.
Regarding the lighter green, I'm unsure if I should stick with Parakeet, or if I should try Lime Sherbert? Parakeet is green-yellow, but is greener, darker and brighter. Lime Sherbert has more yellow, but is very pastel. What do you guys think?
As someone who just got some apple barrel paint mine feels a tad chalky. does you paint feel the same way?
The mixing didn't work well. So I decided to go with the Lime Sherbert. Finished covering the back and back of the legs with the metallic green, finished the green part of the feet and added some to the forearms. I added some metallic red to the chest. I added lime sherbert to the lower legs, helmet and stomach. Didn't mean for it to drip down the pelvic area. I'll hafta fix that later. X( The contrast is striking between the darker green and pastel. I'm gonna try suncatcher paint on the visor later and hope it will be strong enough to cover the yellow. I'm thinking I could try making glue bubbles on top of the head with a hot glue gun and paint them green?
It'll take a couple more coats, but it looks like the suncatcher paint can indeed cover up the yellow. Wonderful! I also added red on the "ear pieces." I'll hafta tidy that up.
Added silver on the front of the waist and started adding white on the face, chest, hands, knees, pelvic area, butt and feet.
Started adding True Navy to the stomach, neck, elbow pads, legs and feet. Now some of you may be saying, "Venixion, why would you do that when the rest of the limbs are already dark navy?" Well, I agree with you wholeheartedly. Initially, it was just to cover up some mistakes, because I erroneously believed it was just as dark as the actual blue plastic. I was wrong. "But Venixion! Why didn't you test it in an inconspicuous area first?" I hear you cry! I wholeheartedly agree with you. The answer to this is simple friends. Its because I'm a dingbat who doesn't always think things through. Xo
It looks great I have a recommendation (I'm guilty of the same mistake so don't take this as judgemental) masking tape would dramatically reduce your chances of mistakes (that being said i always forget to use it sooo...yeah...)
While I'm waiting for him to dry, I decided to add Suncatcher paint to his wings. I also forgot the wings can move independently. Fortunately, there are rectangular sections on them. Dunno if you can see em? So that makes it real easy for unartistic little me to make green rectangles. This is such a good figure to make Yanmark with.
