Edit: END RESULT PICS!!!




Hello everyone! So I knew that the moment we learned that Netflix Magnus wasn't that big of a deco change, that I'd custom him into something possibly better. Something I wasn't expecting though, was finding out just how much of the grey "battle damage" was actually plastic. I decided to remove some of the grey plastic pieces of paint the best I can, but I left the thighs, some bits of the legs and vehicle bumper because I realized something.....WHAT THE HECK AM I GOING TO TURN HIM INTO?!?! NEMESIS? DECEPTICON? DELTA? A CORPSE?!? I'm having one heck of a time trying to think of what to do, so I decided to have a poll to help me decide.

First thing I should mention is that if I need to repaint the inner robot, I might need a different head, because I think I enjoy the blue face behind the blue mask too much. Might just swap with my actual Magnus, but we will see. I think I might just repaint where the original paint was to try and emulate the battle damage that it was trying to before. Lastly, I intend to grab a set of DNA's upgrades to him at some point as well.

These pieces are the ones I removed paint from, and the pics below it are just some setup without fully reassembling him. Thank you everyone for your time and have a fantastic day!

  pretty sweet so far. I voted Delta Magnus, but I feel shattered glass Ultra Magnus might be better, as he shares the same deco, but he has an undead quality to him.

 

I like it!   I'd like to do something similar to mine when I get him.

Two questions:
1. How did you remove the paint to get to the gray plastic?
2. What's the best method for pulling that pin in the leg armor?

I honestly forgot SG Magnus was a thing, lol! He certainly does have that feeling at the moment, so I'll keep that in mind if I go Delta colors.

A part of me feels like it should've been like this from the start if they were going full-spoiler. and to answer your questions.
1. Rubbing Alcohol is what I used. Just remember to separate the transparent plastic when doing so. they don't mix well....
2. You're going to need to find the side of the pin that has grooves on it and push that one out from the other side using a pin punch or something similar (I use this weird wooden orb thing with a metal point on it, used to make holes in fabric) then use a pair of needlenose pliers to pull it out.

I voted for Nemesis. I know Delta is a thing...but I honestly can’t get behind that blue cab. That being said, I do like the blue parts on the combined mode you have pictured above. Maybe just do some black wash and silver highlights all over him? Maybe some dirty red accents somewhere as well?

 

Delta is my first idea cause he’s so bloody bloody handsome. But potentially, you could go for a Shattered Glass Magnus, so combining evil and delta! Just an idea.

 

You should add SG UM to the vote  
I wanted to vote for him, too, but as his color scheme is pretty much the same as Delta Magnus'es I thought it wouldn't make a big difference but thinking about it again...
Btw which style will this figure get. Will you make it G1 accurate? Weather it to make it look like the SIEGE figures should look? Take some liberties in color choices? Go for details (heavy detailing) or just the general color scheme of individual parts?
I always prefer heavy detailing and don't mind liberties in color choices. And most of the times weathering is a nice touch, too.

 

Interpretations are possible.

But Magnus did also have a kooky skull face.

 

You could do a delta Magnus combined mode while the single robot looks like Nemesis Prime.

If you make SG UM would you give him an appropriate head or only repaint him?

 

I'd probably commision a head from @Trentulas if I go that route. I have a few in mind already so why not?

 

Ive been building models my whole life..If I were you, and this is something im about to do to a WWII Bee, Is do a battle damage job.

If your not into it, You can research how to do REALISTIC damage. I would keep this Stock paint job, Give it a complete light coat of Future, then start doing some battle damage.

Do some stuff Like Cut out a chunk of his Arm, and take some model parts and build a visible internal structure, with @22 gauge wires hanging out and shit

Find a chunk of metal, with a rounded and pointy end, heat it up, and stab it a few times for shot blasts that didnt penetrate armor..Some of the plastic that comes up, you can trim into realistic looking shapes..

When I see this..I think..He has been thru some shit. If I get this I will make a battle damage version. I could even see cutting out a chunk of his HEAD, and using model parts to make internals like an eye or something

BATTLE DAMAGE. And dont just paint it..ram it balls deep and do some COOL RIPPED armor effects and shit. Find a "square shape" and cut some out making it look like an AP round blasted some shit out from the inside..Yeah bro..Run it.

That said, I'll get started this weekend. I'm still not sure if I want to do the inner bot exactly like Magna Convoy just yet (with the blue body and black legs) or make it a bit of a reversal (grey body, blue legs, courtesy of GUOP) or something else (might make that a separate thread if I really can't decided, with this being the fully armored thread....lets hope it doesn't come to that) so I'm going to focus on the Armor first.

Step 1: Check clearances and make adjustments to the armor joints
Step 2: Hope the weather is good for spraypaint, then paint.
Step 3: test out that weird battle damage gunmetal spray I got years ago. (I remember it came out in weird splotches, so that's why I want to test it first)

plus side, I already did the white stomach plate that goes under the chest. I might use some of that gunmetal spray above on it if its close to the plastic color. Wish me luck!

 

Okay, while I have no pics at the moment, I do have an update. I've painted the red on the armor bits, but realized too late that it was too light for what I wanted. Luckily, I have a hand-painted red that is darker, but I'm not sure when I'll get to it. Same with the yellow on the legs.

When it comes to the inner robot, I tried dying the white bits dark blue, but turned light blue instead. I Kind of like it so it will stay for now. Unfortunately I can't take apart the legs due to how it is assembled, so I'll hold off until I can grab a DNA leg set. So he'll be black-legged, and light-blue-bodied with all that grey everywhere. I still need a head, also.....

 

Nice work! The Netflix Chromia looks pretty good also with the paint removed. Lots of clear blue plastic.

 

Where do you see Chromia in here?  

 

I, too, am confused. Maybe it was mentioned as a suggestion?
