So I was trying to figure out what molds would be best to update/upgrade the old Jumpstarters, and I hit on RiD Wedge - with a little work, his stumpy little body can be easily refitted with the stockier Jumpstarter parts. As you see him, he's about as tall as Classics Two-Pack Optimus. Here's what I've got right now - I'm planning on building some cowlings for the tank treads to give him more classic-looking shoulders, cutting off the plow, and figuring out a way to mount the drill tips on the knee panels so they can hopefully A: fold out of the way in robot mode and B: spin freely in tank mode. I'm also working on some sufficiently large guns for him, as well as a better hood fairing for the tank mode. We'll see how it works out. The main limitation is that he is a slight parts-former - the "boots" pop off and form the rear of the tank. However, it looks surprisingly good! Once I get a second Wedge, I'm going to get cracking on Topspin as well.
That's a great idea, I love Twintwist and this is a second coming lol. I can't wait to see your approach for Topspin. Nice job on the chest and feet, they're good fits. He does look a bit tall, smaking him very slender, what if you trim up his shins and make him sit lower into those nice boots. I am struck by the arms and legs, Twintwist is a very stout, strong looking bot. The limbs on this guy are very slim, but this mould is a great choice. Your idea for making his arms bigger is spot on. I've wanted to do my own and I've had a thought for Twintwist. Instead of attaching his drills to botmode maybe create a giant rock breaking hammer that they are the ends of. I like the idea of a Wrecker with a sledge to execute blunt force assignments, there's alot of ninjas and samurai out there already. The staff of which could ride underneath in alt mode, deployed forward with the drills facing the right way. I hope you don't mind if I pop in a sketch of what I mean for the hammer. Forgive how terrible it looks. This guy will be great when he's done. I hope you don't mind my suggestions, but you seem to know where you're going without them.
just thinking as well that if you're getting another Wedge would you consider doubling up his threads? It would broaden him considerably. Housing for the tracks would then push back his arms making them very bulky. I hope you don't mind but I was inspired enough by your work to try a quick digi.
DSN: That hammer idea is awesome - you should totally use it. I think I'm going to end up having the drills fold along the front of the legs as shin-guards. It gives that part of his leg some texture. I'm already planning to bulk his arms and legs up a bit more, but I don't want him too burly - his (never actually used, but it DOES exist) animation model is fairly slender. I've got some neat stuff lined up for him and his buddy Topspin, though.
twintwist is such a special tf for me, since he was the first transformer i got when i was a kid. I would definitely do a classics bash on him one day. actually i'm thinking of taking the hulk x-over as the basic mold. i will be looking on your progress. keep it up, can't wait to see the finished twintwist.
