Started with a G1 reissue Perceptor, throw in a dash of Energon Inferno and hopefully I will get what I'm aiming at. So this is the first articulation attempt for me, so it probably won't be the best thing I've ever done, I'm expecting him to be my learning curve. Here are pics of where I'm at right now. I started disassembling Inferno, using parts of his arms for both elbows, knees, and fists. I still have to find an Alt Smokescreen head that I can scavenge his face from. I'm about to head back outside so I can work more on him, but this Florida heat is brutal. Things that will be done upon completion: -new articulated elbows -new fists -new articulated knees -new ball jointed hips -new G1 style face If I can accomplish half of those, then I will be happy. He will sport a totally drybrushed paint job as well. Once done, it's off to ebay with him.
hmmmmm i wonder who gave u the idea for E inferno ??? nice to see your first articulation project is coming alive please remove those dials and the chest plate - to keep them chromy fresh
bellyboy, dude I thank you so much for the E Inferno idea, and the dials and both chest pieces are off and laying aside. cingularman31, I'm gonna scratch build him a new noggin using his existing and a face from Alt Smokescreen.
I found that Cyb Mudflap has a very nice waist swivel, and his abdomen is about the same size as Perceptor, so I gutted my junker Cyb Mudflap and he is graciously donating his abdomen and waist swivel to Perceptor. Here is where I am at now, I've got the Perceptor waist away from his upper body, the plastic was easy a few passes with the Dremel and it was loose, now the Diecast side hasn't been no where as easy, in fact I'm still working on him.
Well, I've not really gotten any further. I started hacking up his arms and built the new swivel waist, had it all epoxyed, went inside to wait for it to cure and came back outside and found that the expoxy did not hold. So now back to the drawing board....well actually to bed since it's 2:27am here.
DUDE... very nice. I'd have to say giving a bot a new waist swivel is one of my favorite articulations.
Thanks guys. I have a very big update coming, so big that it will have to be split between 2 posts more than likely.
I'll just leave these here. So the parts from Cyb Mudflap did not work out, so I'm now switching to use parts from Classics Optimus Prime. So you can see my timeline of progression. I feel that the Classics Optimus parts are much better to use. So, since I've cut the elbow pieces off from his arms, I have to extend the mechanism, so I'm having to use some 2mm styrene to build up a very small extension. So this is where I'm at now.
Sweet, these photo shots after shots are worth following! I like just looking so far, I'm certain it'll be outstanding when finished!
I hope so, I've poured alot of blood and sweat....no tears yet, into this. This is for sure a labor of love.
I was liking what you were doing with the Mudflap. Aside from using the Prime mold, what deterred you from the Mudflap parts?
Oh man Allen is this update for you brother. ------------------------------------------ Oh, well hello there, what have we here? Perceptor has new thighs and as a result a new knee. I got home from work around 1am, sat down on my front porch to smoke a cigarette and it fucking hit me like a pile of bricks, I could still use the Cyb Mudflap parts that I wanted to. So I finished my cig, went inside and started examining the Cyb Mudflap thighs, and sure enough, with a little widening of his peg hole, it would fit right onto Perceptor and work just fine. So, as bellyboy has told me before, I need to make mistakes, so I can learn how to fix em.
Thanks Allen, I just finished getting the other thigh on, with the exception of adding in some hip movement, his lower body is done. Which I can't add the hip movement until I find another figure that I can steal the hip mechanisms from. His upperbody is missed his forearms, fists, and head. Once all of the above is finished, I will start the filling, sanding, and prepping for paint.
