**Update**WIP Animated Dinotitan Almost Done! This is my first attempt at a custom. Trying to make a DinoTitan but not to copy Spurt to the tee, his is the best its gonna get. Still working some stuff out, heres the update..85 percent compete! This is not going to be his head..This is just a place holder.
Great job so far! You've chosen a heck of a first bash, but it looks like you have a handle on it! I can't wait to see some more updates! Off topic, love your Emu Orbit, I use a Proteus 2000 myself!
Nice work aprim. I better hurry on your commission before you decide you can do it yourself lol. I'd steer away from that green shit, like I mentioned this morning....you should grab some 2 part epoxy glue for the adhesive also.
Hank- You should see my studio. Juno 106 VIrus TI, Mpc4000 audity 2000. ALso have a beta Mpc 3500 that sits under the orbit but I took it down to do this project. Frenzy. Don't worry can't paint LOL. But I need a better glue. What do you use? Thxs for looking guys.
yeah, the devcon stuff's the best I can find. there's a thread in general discussion w/ a link where you can order some online. edit: here's the link: http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/radicons-general-discussion/221524-stop-friggin-presses-2.html
Gotta admit, I used Devcon for the first time just about a month ago, I like it. Good stuff! Aprim, You got me beat! Truth be told I'm a guitar player and I use an Axon Ax-100 guitar synth to trigger the Proteus, awesome textures! Plus there's nothing like playing any instrument through your guitar!LOL
For glue, I found 'Zap-a-Gap' is the secret weapon. You buy an 'activator' to drip onto it, and it'll cure immediately. It's for model airplane builders, so when they crash, they can get their plane flying again quickly. The label says "works on fuel soaked parts!" Very strong (don't glue yourself to your project) *edit -- it comes in a thick, regular, and runny variety. I use the regular. It gets into the cracks.
Lookin great so far. Can't wait to see him all together. But it leaves me with 2 questions. What is that head on grimlock? And since you said you can't paint, is this project gonna be your attempt, or is someone else gonna paint it? Other than that, keep up the nice work!
Well the legs combine no problem, Swoop and Sludge are a diffrent story so far. I Don't want to use such BIG Hands and Arms as Suprt Did, Im tring to find a way to attach them and become more of the arm. Swoop has no meat on him, any type of mod is gonna look silly. the bottom of his feet are the only real option. Something I tried but the putty didn't hold the connection. Im gonna try another glue that will hold it. The Head is from Binocle, Im gonna mod to look evil when I'm Done. I'm gonna try and paint it. See how bad I mess this up.. Thanks for looking guys!
I planned on looking at some videos here, But should I hand paint everything? I thought I would leave the greyand just paint the details and new heads. Also paint the Gold so they all match. I loved Suprts colors, the red, Black and Gold really pop. Do I have to get off all the orginal paint? Should I prime it. Damn maybe I should pay someone to paint it..lol Thanks again.
Depends what your strengths are...what's your painting experience? Are you good with sprays or brush painting? Have you ever done hobby model work before? If you're going to leave the grey unpainted, you'd have to mask those areas off and make sure they don't get damaged during the modding process. I would just paint it all, personally. You don't exactly need to strip the factory paint off. That's more of a preference. Same with priming. Although both of those methods will help the new paint stick to the molds. But you definitely should clean the figures in warm soapy water to clean off any dirt, dust, and residue the figures have accumulated from you handling and modding them. If you're really concerned about painting, you should experiment on a smaller and cheaper figure. Maybe even a junker to hone your skills. This seems a bit ambitious for someone with no real custom experience. Not saying you should abandon this project, but you definitely need to practice before venturing into something of this scale. This is why I keep my mods and repaints relatively small. I've yet to tackle a combiner because I want to better myself first.
I have no experience with painting but I guess Ill just try it on a few junkers. Yea, maybe this was a little bigger then I thought but theres nothing really I can't undo..If I paint it shitty the Dino's are cheep enough I can take the mod's out and replace them in a new Figure. Thats why I choose this one first each one is still in stores. Thanks for the advise!
wow bro, this is looking really good. especially for your first bash. i like the connectors, and the way you have them hiding, very nice.
