I was just wondering if the Dinobots were an organized team or if they all just did their own thing. Grimlock would be the leader, but what about the rest? I think Strafe would be the second-in-command but I have no idea about the rest. In TF1 they all had clear-cut roles in the team: Optimus the leader, Bee the scout/spy, Ironhide the weapons specialist, Ratchet the Medic, and Jazz the... well actually I really don't remember what Jazz was... I vaguely recall optimus calling him his lieutenant but he didn't really have a specialty.
For AOE I guess Hound is the weapons specialist, Crosshairs is the pilot/sniper and Optimus the leader but idk about the rest.

 

Not sure. Most likely when we're seeing their origin story, it'll be explained.

Jazz was first lieutenant/second-in-command.

 

I could see Grimlock being the leader, Strafe as second-in-command, Slug as more of a "heavy-weapons" guy like Ironhide and Hound, Scorn probably an all-around, same goes for Snarl. Slog is probably another heavy-weapons, but larger. Slash is more of a scout. That's what I'm thinking.

 

Woah, Woah, Woah, WOAH. You cannot simply forget Jazz! he was Optimus Prime's 1st Lieutenant and his second in command.

Strafe: Aerial Support

Slug: Heavy weapons?

Scorn: Second in command maybe? he seems to be close to grimlock a lot

Slash: The fast attacker, gets in and out while causing lots of damage

Snarl, same as Slug maybe

Slog: Heavy hitter

I think in the overall Autobot team dynamic, the Dinobots are like the Hulk in Avengers, whose job was to bounce around and keep the heat off the other Avengers and keep the Chitauri from getting really organized in their assault.

"Dinobots. Smash."

1. Grim: leader
2. Slug: second in command
3. Strafe: air support
4. Slash: commando/scout
5. Scorn: soldier/heavy close combat specialist
6: Snarl: soldier
7:Slog: heavy weapons artillery.

Really?! You'd think Prime would be more emotionally affected by the death of his Second in Command.

 

Scorn and slug are grimlock's lieutenants, strafe is something.
Slash, Snarl, and Slog we don't know yet if there going to defect or not.

They won't have ranks... They're going to be raging beasts, either semi-sentient or barbarian like in intelligence.

 

I mean to have been his second in command for so many years, they must've been extremely close, like bff close. but no, they barely talk to each other the whole film and when his closest friend gets ripped in half all he says is "he fought bravely" and then moves on. He seemed to care more about Megatrons death honestly.

 

Prime seems pretty used to having comrades die, which makes sense. Also, having somebody be your second in command doesn't mean that you're close to them, just that you trust them to do their job well.

Hell, everybody keeps referencing the Avengers. Let's not forget how Nick Fury reacted to the death of his right hand man. He USED it.

This is not G1 Prime, this is movieverse Prime. He's a lot more jaded and warrior like....which is pretty realistic in terms of what happens after fighting a war for so long.

I suspect that were the Autobots to eventually win and eliminate the Decepticon threat, Optimus would hand off leadership to somebody else. He knows that fighting for so long has compromised him and that he accomplished his mission and it's time for someone else to carry the torch.

 

I'm guessing it's more of a pecking order, Grimlocks the boss coz he's literally "the boss!" Slag is second coz Grimlocks the only thing in the galaxy he respects, and so on..

 

Yeah, this is most likely. The Dinobots have never really had a hierarchy other than Grimlock being leader. Some were featured more heavily so fans think oh hey Slag/Slug, he's second, Swoop is third, etc.

But really, no. And I suspect that's the case here. Grimlock is the leader, and the others simply follow him.

Slug maybe specializes in ground combat, strafe is aerial, scorn is some kind of shock-troop, snarl specializes in defense, and slog is heavy artillery.

Meanwhile, Grimlock just kills everything and is a total boss.
