OK, most threads about TF4 have been about the actors and robots, but i haven't seen a major thread about this:

Both Bay, Walberg and i think others have said that TF4 is very 'different' from the past movies. Now, some of you may say: 'It's just Bay talking s*it, he'll just do the same thing again.'

But imagine if there really is a big difference. What could it be? And is the 'it's my most important role in my career' line from Walberg just for marketing, or is it actually special?

Honestly I think it's something the marketing department came up with because even with 3D inflation on the ticket prices Dark of the Moon made less in the US than Revenge of the Fallen did. So I think they will give us this song and dance about how everything is going to be different only for it to be exactly the same as the other three films to cash in on that huge overseas box office haul.

Don't think it will be drastically different. They said the same thing with DOTM, that ROTF was a victim of the writers strike and that DOTM would be better.

It wasn't. It adressed some of the awkward stuff with Wheelie, but the movie had every flaw ROTF had.

If Michael Bay's doing it, it'll just be more of the same crap we've gotten with the last three films.

They seem to be aware of the problems the films had (or at least the criticisms they got) but why should they change? They made a ton of money and that's ultimately what they're in business for.

It's always possible that T4 could be different but I doubt they'll be any real change until they get a new director.

Honestly, with a brand new cast and the rumored changes to happen to the transformers, Along with all (known) decepticons dead, this can go in all kinds of directions. I'm extremely curious how they're even gonna have a villian.

Would I like it to be better, smarter and with less lame humor than the last ones? Yes. Do I think it actually will be? No. No I don't. Sadly as long as these things make money they have very little reason to change things. I worry that we may have reached a catch 22 situation with these films. If the next one doesn't make money then the studios may assume people are sick of Transformers films. Either 4 will make money and the studios will go on making these things with no improvements whatsoever or it will fail and studios will assume audiences are sick of Transformers movies and just stop making them for awhile. Kind of a damned if you do and damned if you don't situation.

Still it's not unusual nowadays to see reboots of action hero franchises even if they weren't entirely received well. Heck Marvel tried in vain to make a decent movie for years before they finally got it right, lol.

I really hope (but i doubt he will) that Bay will find out that having massive action in sci-fi and action movies isn't enough. You need story, ideas and some actual character development. I like to think that he has understood this, that we'll have some progress with TF4, some substance to the plot, rather than stupid thong jokes... But no. No no no no no.

But if we accept that there is something different... I think Bay could try to pull of some MECH-style story, thinking how he loves the army. Wahlberg could be playing Cylas' equivalent. (Still no robot character development though)

Anyone who still thinks it will be an improvement after the director had THREE opportunities to show what he is capable of, is in for a nasty surprise.

Unless they liked it, then it will be at least more goodies for them.

I guess that's true too. The second Hulk movie came out only a few years after the first one flopped.

The beauty of such comments from directors and actors and whoever is that they don't really mean anything but make people think they do. "It'll be different." Well no shit, they aren't going to re-release the same exact movie again. But people will assume "different" will mean "better", and "better" can mean several billion different things, which of course will lead to many calling Bay and co. liars for not doing something they never actually said they would do.

And anyone who acts surprised at how bad something is after having three chances to see what they're in for is just torturing themselves.

I know it's totally irrational to think that people may actually avoid something they don't like on the internet, but wouldn't that be a lark if all the people who hated the first three just left the fourth alone and stopped supporting it by going out to see it just to bitch about it later.

    How true that is, lol.

Exactly and even in the '80s when Paramount gave Star Trek another try with Wrath of Khan. The first movie had been disappointing but not entirely without profit and if they think there's still an audience they'll go for it.

I hope Bay visits this site and hear our pleas how to make a good Transformers movie.
