Seriously, why do most posts I see here keep ranting about her? Is she hoggin the spotlight from the other humans? Her taste of music suck? What?

 

Charging into the battlefield after the bots without a care for her own safety, almost getting killed in the process, then doing it again later without learning.

i feel like shes a autobot groupie but i like her style though. think about it, wouldnt you be a groupie a bit too if you got to hang out with your fav faction? i would be stoked.

 

Shes not a terrible character, but i feel there are some moments that are made more annoying or awkward by her, like when she asks Raf to dance, or when she keeps going on about how she needs a picture of the awesome death machine that she will most likely be dealing with face to face and i personally get annoyed when i see characters in my cartoon that are basically the ones meant to get into trouble to fill in the story or make it the whole story for one or 2 episodes and she has an annoying way of going about it. If it were up to me, everytime theres a big "situation" id put her in a box with a few holes in it just so i could GUARANTEE she wouldnt be part of the problem, but most likely the BOX would get into some kind of trouble!

Ahh, that made me feel better. Anyway, thats a sample of the kind of reasons people go on about her. i can totally understand why the human characters are there and honestly there are some moments that really make me appreciate miko being there, like when she cried for Bulkhead when he was in the cave lifing up the roof to prevent colapse or when they were exploring the ruins for her history report OR when she convinces him to go get breakdown from MECH for a rematch. Their chemistry is really nice and is 100% a callback to Sari in the Animated series. That aside, the other reason for people getting fed up with her is her dialog as well. The hyperactive question sessions, the way she just does not listen to reason at all.....

Im sure there are differing opinions on the matter, but those are my reasons for liking and disliking this character.

 

Like FNG said, Miko is reckless. Her most notable and my least favorite thing about her is that she's nearly gotten her beloved Bulkhead killed on more then one occasion, is taunted about this on one occasion by Starscream, and never learns. What is also frustrating is the only time she takes responsiblity, Optimus just says, "Oh we're just glad you're safe". Yes, they get chased by a Zombie. That's what she wanted, isn't it? And ever since then she's only been "scolded" for her recklessness by Arcee rather lightly then what she needs. And I thought Sari was annoying at first. You'd think nearly getting Bulkhead killed twice would I don't know, leave a message to her or something.

But Miko's just a cartoon character. Just like Prime, she's written as a weak character, and eventually I'm sure that she'll grow up and wisen up, just as Prime likely will not be so stoic and boring for forever. But for now, every time she runs into the Ground Bridge at full speed, or forgets she almost killed Bulkhead again, I'll be annoyed by her at first then forget it. It's just a show - no reason to get a website going to kill her or something stupid like that.

 

Basically because she acts like a cartoon character in a cartoon. Which is a crime, apparently.

 

Many reasons. Here's the simplified version:

1. Apparently Japanese, but speaks with a Mexican inflection
2. Runs into a firefight with no care about her safety
3. As a result, is the cause for someone getting injured trying to protect her
4. Possibly getting injured herself, yet shakes it off saying it was "cool"
5. Every week (every damn week) forgets her "lesson" she learned the previous week about her, and others', safety
6. Annoys the crap out of everyone but Bulkhead and sometimes Optimus
7. No sense of responsibility
8. Shallow character with almost no depth (other than "Oh, I moved here from Tokyo because it sounded fun, and now I barely talk to my parents)
9. Parents give her everything, trying to progress her intellectual ability, throws it down the drain to go to Jasper, Nevada
10. Only purpose is to fill a demographic

I could go on, but I think you get the point. She's a simple character that's only purpose in an episode is to cause some crap the Autobots spend the rest of the episode trying to fix. People may say Sari was the same way, but at least Sari acknowledged her mistakes and grew from them. She had real character development because she didn't cause many problems for the Autobots. If Miko at least once owned up to her mistakes and grew from them, I may not despise the character as much as I do now. Now, all I hope they could do is find some way for a Vehicon to squish her... twice.

I have no problem with any of the other humans in this show. I find Jack's protectiveness to be the rock that holds them together, and Raf's intelligence yet innocence to be quite refreshing. Fowler hasn't had a lot of screen time, but the bits that he has had has been good. June is fine, but suffers from even less screen time than Fowler.

But Miko needs to go. NOW.

2 In TMI, Miko didn’t just run into battle without a care in the world, she kept an eye out for danger. Miko went into battle to help out, not quench an adrenaline rush. The Autobots always go running into battle, so it’s no wonder that she hasn’t learned a stealthier way to do the same, though she’s managed to do so without being detected every time so…
4 She blamed herself plenty in TMI.
5 What did she do after TMI that makes you say so?
6 I don’t get that. Her friends are still there with her…
7 I would agree with this statement, but I feel she’s changed due to how close to home things hit in TMI
9 In my experience, parents/students don’t get to choose where they go for study unless they’re going to a language school. Students must go to schools that have an affiliation with their own school.
10 I don’t know about that, as my Japanese wife doesn’t see Miko as Japanese. At all. Her accent, and no sense for Japanese culture and customs and behavior has made her something else.

I don't hate Miko myself, but a toned down version wouldn't bother me any. As she's supposed to be Japanese, I WOULD like to see her written as such. I don't think there's anything that can be done about her accent as her VA has a very strong accent of her own, but she/writers could make her act more Japanese.

 

Instead of just looking at those posts, try to read them and PAZAH! You will know "why".

After few times i would definitly be more carefull.

Being unteachable idiot, who constantly makes the same mistake is not enough? Once might be charming (and yeah, I might do this too), twice silly, but again, and again, and again... That's just idiotic and annoying. Even more, that nobody wants to talk with her about it:

"Hey Miko, remember how you almost killed us for the third time?"
"Yeah it was so cool!!"
"...yeah, uhm, stop doing that, ok?"

With that kind of logic I would have to dislike all cartoon characters. And, uhm, no. I have nothing against Fowler, Jack or EVEN June. Heck, i like her. Most fandom does, and I thought she will be most hated, for the simple reason of being a parent character.

So yeah:

June > Miko.
Good writing > shity writing.

Miko would probably come off a bit better if she was more " adventurous and street smart" than being this "wild, zany, and braindead" character. To me it would certainly be amore palatable, and would still offer a dynamic to Raf's gentle naivete, or Jack's cautious nature.

 

That´s exactly what I think. I would prefer her to be more like Yumi from Code Lyoko, with subtles yet significants bits of her japanese inheritance (I am talking about her normal self in France, not her "geisha with throwing tessen" self from Lyoko).

First off, nothing against you, just responding as i see fit. And I just watched back TMI, so these replies are fresh  

1. It's funny because she has a few accents she cycles through and none of them are Japanese
2. Actually, she ran into battle to get out of helping Ratchet clean, and almost instantly got herself killed. She always follows the 'Bots to quench her adrenaline rush. And I beg to differ about the Autobots, because Optimus is always preaching that they need to think of a plan before rushing headlong into battle, which is what Miko does
3. No response, so.... *shrug*
4. When? All she ever did was try to bring back Bulkhead when he was spitting out the formula. She only owned up after she made Bulk lose the formula
5. She hasn't had an opprotunity to screw up yet, give it time.  
6. Arcee shows signs of annoyance, Ratchet is significantly annoyed by her, Jack also seems annoyed by her because of her irresponsibility, but somehow Raf, Optimus, Bee and Bulkhead put up with her
7. Once again, she hasn't had an opportunity due to Ratchet having his episode, and then the season closer
8. Not acknowledged... *shrugs again*
9. Don't exactly know how that was responding to my statement, but she clearly stated in Darkness Rising that she saw the "brochure" and wanted to go there
10. Hey, I never said she filled the role well, but that's pretty much her only purpose (aside from being Bulk's human partner)

While a toned down version would be nice, they could save the trouble of animating, rewriting her, telling her voice actor to sound more Japanese, etc. if they just offed her lol.

Yet, she showed remorse the moment she realized what was happening to Bulkhead. She didn’t know he was losing his mind until, well, he was losing his mind. She thought something good came of her actions.

Arcee showed annoyance when Jack’s mom injected herself into their lives. Miko has yet to do that to her.

I’ll be honest and say that I don’t recall that bit, but that still doesn’t change the fact that schools, not students choose which schools a student can and cannot go to. My university back home in the States has three sister schools in Japan. I was free to choose whichever one I wanted to attend, so long as it was one of those three schools, so…

I always thought Miko was supposed to be us, you know the Transformer geeks jumping on the PC every time we see/hear anything new Transformers that catches our fancy.
Bob and gang covered up the lack of Japanese culture with Miko’s geeking out episodes, which I find unfortunate:/

I doubt her voice actress could fake a Japanese accent or any other accent for that matter, as she always sounds the same—at least to me anyway. At this point, it’s too late to change the way she speaks, but it isn’t too late to change her attitude, as that is what is currently happening. Now, if they can make a few nods to her culture I’ll be one happy camper.
It’d be awesome if they had her parents show up or call to check up on her at some point. I’d flip if they could get George Takei to be provide the voice of her father 

 

Firstly, I'm tired of seeing this. People in this fandom need to stop using the 'most of the fandom' excuse to justify their opinions, because, hey, a lot of us can speak for ourselves, you know.

Second, the irony of this post, given the closing lines, is delicious.  

 

This. A thousand times this. I find it ironic when my suspencion of disbelief is tested not with Starscream coughing or with crashed Autobot ships sitting for centuries in plain sight without being discovered, but rather, with the personality of teenager.

And I agree that all of the other human characters (Jack, Raf, June, William and Silas) are flat out awesome.
