Why were the dinobots the only G1 Autobots with beast alt modes?

Autobots only had the dinobots, while the Decepticons had:

    Insecticons
Gnaw/Sharkticons (not technically Decepticons in the show, but still villains and considered Decepticons in the toy)
    Predacons
    Terrorcons
    Headmasters
    Pounce and Wingspan
    Scorponok

(Keep in mind, I'm only referring to humanoid transformers with beast alt modes, not TFs whose robot modes are beasts but whose alt modes are non-beasts, like Ravage, Sky Lynx, or Trypticon, although even if we include those the Autobot beasts are still way outnumbered)

Why is this, I wonder? Did Hasbro decide, sometime after season 2, that beast modes should be associated more with Decepticons?

Edit: Oops, wrong forum. Does this board not allow us to delete threads? I don't see the option to.

Just remember the toys were made first and I doubt they were thinking that much about it

Why is this in 3P? Shouldn't it be in General?

Forum-appropriateness aside, I thought even as a kid, that "beastly alt-modes" were kind of a Decepticon thing. Especially for combiners. (again, excluding the ones with no "humanoid" robot mode, like the casettes)

The cartoon had it that the Ark was reactivated in the 1980's so they got formatted into vehicles instead of animals as vehicles *seemed* to be the dominate life form to it. The Dinobots were created as a Wheeljack project to give the Autobots more brute strength so that's where the dinosaur modes came from. The Insecticons crashed earlier before in the past when there weren't vehicles and were formatted by their computers to match what was around, bugs so it seems.

The rest of them were created as what they needed or they wanted them to be I suppose.

The real thing was they just took a bunch of toys and tossed them together and made teams (or the guys at Marvel comics did) and probably decided other than the dinosaurs, the creatures and "monsters" looked better as bad guys. :p

To be fair, aside from maybe some of the Predacons, most of these are either monsters or otherwise "mean" animals that don't fit the Autobots really.

Those didn't come out until after the show ended, though. So basically between the Dinobots in season 1 all the way to the Monsterbots after the show ended (or in Headmasters, if you go by Japanese continuity), there were no new Autobots with beast alt modes introduced, while the Decepticons had a whole bunch.

Ironically, since season 1 and 2 just had the Dinobots and the Insecticons, the Autobots actually had more beast alt modes pre-TFTM (at least if you just go by the cartoon, since the deluxe Insecticons gave the Decepticons additional beast modes in the toyline). It was actually Season 3 and 4 that seemed to make a concerted effort to associate beast alt modes with the Decepticons, since Decepticons got a whole bunch while the Autobots got none (and in most cases the Decepticon beasts had Autobot rivals/counterparts with vehicular alt modes).

Why deleted it? Just have a mod move it to the relevant section.

Well, I would have just deleted it and reposted it in the right forum, which would have been quicker and would have avoided posts with people asking why it was in the wrong forum.

I was going to mention the Monsterbots, but a whole bunch of people beat me to it. That being said, in the G1 cartoon....really, who knows?

Sky Lynx, Ramhorn, Steeljaw, Dial, and Zaur did not have beast alt modes. One was a space shuttle and the rest were microcassettes.

Because they were part of Diaclone that Hasbro used to create the Transformers Autobots line? (While Microman was used for the Decepticons...)

Any fan should know this I would think, it's basic knowledge about how TFs came to be.

All I know is that G1 Transformers came from a mishmash of different lines. I know the realistic vehicles came from Diaclone as did the dinobots and insecticons, while non-vehicles like Megatron and Perceptor came from Microman, Skyfire came from Robotech, and Shockwave and Omega Supreme came from some other place I can't remember.

But how does that relate to which faction got the most beast mode figures? Both factions got a mix of figures from different lines, and the season 3 and 4 figures were made specifically for Transformers anyway, and season 3 and 4 is when the Decepticons got a ton of beast mode TFs.

Decepticons with beast modes introduced in season 3 and 4

    1. Razorclaw
    2. Divebomb
    3. Rampage
    4. Headstrong
    5. Tantrum
    6. Trypticon
    7. Hun-Gurr
    8. Rippersnapper
    9. Blot
    10. Sinnertwin
    11. Cutthroat
    12. Cindersaur
    13. Scullcruncher
    14. Mindwipe
    15. Weirdwolf
    16. Apeface
    17. Snapdragon
    18. Pounce
    19. Wingspan
    20. Sixshot
    21. Scorponok

Autobots with beast modes introduced in season 3 and 4:

    1. Sky Lynx

And as mentioned previously, Sky Lynx and Trypticon technically don't have beast alt modes, since their beast mode functions as their robot mode, but I included them in the list anyway.
