Why was Grimlock on the Alcamor?.

Just Wondering.

 

In Season One episode 8 Bumblebee remarks that it was "severe property damage".

Something to note is that no matter how hard anyone wants it to be so, Prime, Rescue Bots, and RID are not in continuity with the Cybertron games, so until we're told otherwise this Grimlock has probably more or less always been a Decepticon.

Another thing to note is that it seems that on post -war Cybertron Decepticons are discriminated against in a social and legal sense.

Some evidence:
- Steeljaw's quest to establish a "Decepticon Homeworld" being something that every member of his patchwork pack identify with.
- A whole lot of the Alchemor prisoners being basically forcibly induced into a coma over very small crimes. Property damage, theft, blackmail, etc.
- Sideswipe's "A Decepticon? That's cool." remark implying that the expectation would be that being a Decepticon wouldn't be "cool".

I'm not sure if they'll build on this hinted unfairness towards Decepticons in Cybertron's new society, but they are expanding on the corrupt High Council they were hinting at for a Season and a half. So there's hope.

 

I hope so too.

But I fear they'll just either forget about it again until the end or it'll be half assed.

 

I'm gonna go with being in a big bar brawl that caused some serious property damage; especially since in this show 'Decepticon' appears to be a synonym for 'Criminal'.

 

I honestly have a feeling that there's more to the story to his imprisonment. Reason I say this is because due to the council on Cybertron being corrupt and all it makes me wonder if they had anything to do with him being captured. I mean from what I remember it's implied that even he isn't aware that he was a Decepticon so I can't help but wonder if he was someone who went against the council's crooked actions and got punished for it by having his memory be altered and rebranded him as a Decepticon doing property damage as a cover up in other words like a more tame version of Shadowplay from IDW.

 

He had an addiction to Smashing...

 

That would actually be a GREAT way to fix the continuity errors with Fall of Cybertron and at least let the very different aligned versions of Grimlock make some kind of sense as the same character.

 

Again with the corrupt council  
I honestly would like to see how they would handle that, but as i said before: not erecting statues for the heroes who won the war and giving them ordinary jobs (some of them off planet) hardly sounds corrupt to me.
Following the spirit of the show my guess
is Grimlock was just being careless, boisterous or angry and thoughtlessly smashed into something.
As to the perceived second class citizen status of Decepticons: i love this show but i'm gonna have to put Lovecrafts evidence down to careless writing more than that list being proof of any social injustice.

 

Out of universe, it's because he was originally intended to be a new character until Hasbro requested he be Grimlock because of the recent incarnation from AOE, and the writers found that FOC Grimlock's backstory would clash with the otherwise upbeat tone of the show.

In universe, it's possible that he's a different Grimlock.

 

Simple. Grimlock was upset with his role in Age of Extinction and went to Hasbro's Headquarters to complain. Once there he almost destroyed the entire building until he was arrested. Now he's doing community service by appearing in RiD.

Yeah, you. The show's producers confirmed recently over Twitter that RID Grimlock is his own unique entity from the FOC Grimlock.

Not to mention that the Cybertron games have at this point been established as similar to but certainly not the canonical backstory to the Prime/RB/RID cartoon universe.

The cartoon creators say so, the game creators say so, Hasbro admits dropping the ball.

Move on.

In case you havent noticed, everyone is a seperate entity from the games. The shows are a seperate entity from the games.

What if it turns out he was in for a far more sinister thing? Like he was brainwashed to kill all of his Dinobot pals.

 

I always hoped that it would turn out that Grimlock was actually undercover and got memory loss and speech impediment due to the crash and once he got better, he would talk normally and we would learn about his past as an undercover special ops member of something like maaaaayyybeeeee the Wreckers or something? That would have been cool. I don't know if my imagination just ran wild or if it could be, that this was slightly hinted at but they decided against such a thing. But I somehow like my version better than what we got
