Robots with really bad skin rashes. They look just about as out there as Bay's stuff.

Floro Dery is a famous artists that did several of the original designs for Transformers. They were way over designed and possible to animate, but now we could bring his vision to life.

Travis' Prime is a great example of his style.

At the very least imagine this tribute to Floro Dery as flashback.

Very talented artist, albeit a little eccentric. Don't know if his work would translate well to the film medium though.

I always do think Floro Dery was an overlooked part of TF history. I really do appreciate what he did for the franchise as a growing artist myself.

Also,damn...I always love Galvatron and his Destructicons designs. They look medieval-like and if we're talking about the rashes part,c'mon..that's how Floro does his art for robots from the looks of things. He attempts to make them look alien after all. THEY ARE FROM OUTER SPACE after all. What's the idea of an alien if they weren't supposed to look weird? 'shrugs'

Honestly, that would work rather well. Keep that sort of design aesthetic and give the characters their more "classic" colors. Hell, it doesn't even have to be for slavish G1 designs. Maybe take that design philosophy and apply it to some other non-G1 characters to make them more realistic. I think that's a really cool way of staying true to the roots of the franchise while doing it in a completely different fashion. Plus, it meshes the Bay designs and classical design quite nicely.

I think that would work, why not? Different designs doesn't mean bad after all. And tbh,I'd like to see something different. Not Bay-formers different tho. 0_0

This was one of the concepts for Transformers the Classic movie. I freakin' love this scene because Galvatron,Cyclonus and his Armada and the Revenge ship (really gonna need an Action Master style playset for that beast. I mean look at it: [IMG]) flying over the Hall of Heroes to fight Unicron. How badass is that?!!

There's even a universe that transforms into a robot: [IMG] Univorsium is his name. Damn, that's quite an impressive feat there.
[IMG] And the Decepticon hall of heroes. One of the robots,Nevron looks a little bit like Raideen, the very first transforming robot ever made in anime: [IMG]

Some Floro Dery designs in live-action would look cool, certainly.

Galvatron,Scourge and Cyclonus are awesome, they're dark and creepy and last 2 even more than Galvatron.
This art works well on them and fembot character as Elita in War dawn, but I like less in male Autobots if it's extreme as in these designs.
Could work but not using on main part of cast, and fortunately proceeded on this way.
I'm happy that in following year more traditional robots in Decepticon ranks have arrived as Skullcruncher and others. Also that slender Quintesson would have suited well next to Judges and Universum would be an absolute nightmare to watching in movie, first time I know about him, concept and enormous face in scenes are scary.

I'm of two minds with Floro Dery's designs. On the one hand, the detail is astounding and awesome, and we have him to thank for G1 Galvatron's iconic design. O the other, I'm not sure how I'd feel seeing Dery's designs on the modern screen. I think they worked more for background characters, like Kranix from the 1986 movie, and might work better if another planet of living robots uses his designs as inspiration. The Cybertronian designs (not counting Bayverse), are mostly blocky, chunky, and kinda easy to see how they would change shape. Dery's designs make it much harder for you to see what would go where. Like, take Galvatron, for instance. His design is iconic, but you don't really figure out what goes where when he changes shape. Heck, when I watch him transform into his cannon mode to obliterate Starscream in the movie, I think he grows a third leg for his tripod, and his cannon actually partsforms when he reverts back to robot mode.

Now, I like Galvatron's appearance in the G1 movie. His helmet is striking, his colors are bold, and he looks more advanced than the blocky forms of most Cybertronians. But does that mean he'd translate well to the big screen? On that, I hesitate, because you can get away with a LOT more crazy excuses in an animated movie for what goes where, than in a Live Action film, where people at least hold a tentative expectation that physics isn't gonna be like, "Oh sorry, I'm on a vacation. You all do whatever."

To elaborate, you expect in a live action movie for the Cybertronians to have a certain degree of weight in their movements if they're built with a bulky stature. Others, you expect to move quickly if they have a thin build. If Floro Dery's designs were incorporated, but the weight and movements and quantum craziness like growing a third stand to balance yourself are kept, I feel...well, like the suspension of disbelief would take a vacation as well.
