Why no previous movie molds/non-AOE Characters in current movie line?

I know that Hasbro stated at Toy Fair 2014 that they were not going to release any previous movieverse toys in the AOE line. ...

My question, obviously, is why not?

Each of the previous movies had redecos of previous stuff, and it would, again, obviously, allow them to get the unreleased DOTM stuff out, even if they were exclusives.

It would seem like a good way to boost up the number of deluxe size stuff, and bolster the ranks of the under represented Decepticons.

we now know that Drift is going to use the Skyhammer , will this mean more to follow?

Oh yeah, but I was, and should have put this in, talking more about deluxes. I kinda think of those as the "bread and butter" of the line. But even still, that stuff is not on the scale of previous movie lines, as far as older toys go.

I'm pretty sure they didn't say that, and also you might want to spoiler-tag the bottom line i've cut.

there is a deluxe or two in there.

so in other words, they will use other molds.

    if not, takara is.

so that answers your thread's question.

Probably because older Movie Deluxes don't fit into AoE's 'simpler for kids' approach to this line, and the Generations AoE subline bit is all new toys.

There's several like the deluxe Silver Knight Optimus for example, Drift, and Leader Bumblebee and loads of Cyberverse.

The question about why no Off Camera Characters is a valid one - but then there is no new mould toy yet of the drones either.

They may have held back a few things for Comic conventions and Botcon though. They usually try to flood the market with tat near Xmas.

Yeah, but there were exclusives for the stores in the DotM line that utilized older, more complex molds, despite the lower complexity of that line. There was the Walmart Sidearm Sideswipe repaint, and the Target Arcee and Terradive repaints.

I really wish Hasbro would consider this. I would kill for a deluxe Leadfoot that's not $4,000. And I'm sure others would appreciate it as well.

You just answered your own question. You started with "Hasbro stated at Toy Fair 2014 that they were not going to release any previous movieverse toys in the AOE line" and then ended with "
Voyager Drift is a retool of DOTM Skyhammer
". So obviously that statement from Toy Fair is not true/they changed their minds.

    Where was THAT confirmed?

Keep in mind that between ConstructBots, Generations continuing to see significant support this year, and the "Robots in Disguise" side of the movie line there is a LOT of stuff in the $10-15 range to begin with. Just because it isn't WHAT YOU WANT doesn't mean there isn't a lot of stuff out there for consumers to buy.

IN addition, fans have been demanding Dinobots for years, and now we have a situation where Hasbro is able to address them full bore, and with 7 Dinobots (plus the other half dozen Transformers characters in the film), that's a LOT of characters to address before getting into guys who aren't even featured in the film. And, sadly, Transformers aren't AS big as they were in 2009, or even 2011 with those film pushes, and retail itself is FAR more conservative than at that time as well.

If nothing else, we still have a Christmas/DVD push to come in the fall where Hasbro might slip in some exclusives.

I think maybe the better question is that why did they say that when having the DOTM Leader Bumblebee along with the DOTM Skyhammer mold as Drift goes against that plan to begin with.

IIRC I believe it was said at Toy Fair that non core characters from the previous movie lines weren't getting releases?

I am pretty sure they did.
    From Toy Fair 2014
Presenting for the Transformers team were Jerry Jivoin and Joshua Lamb; presenting for the Kre-O team was Kristin Hamilton. Also at the event was current Transformers team member Mark Weber (in charge of the Generations segment), and former Transformers team member Bill Rawley presented for the design side of the Star Wars team.
    According to the presentation...
No molds from previous movie-based lines will be in Age of Extinction.

I guess it all boils down to this, I know that they are doing some exclusives, like the Beast Wars repaints, and the Drift thing, but I really like it when they do some extra non-movie stuff. Like the basics line in ROTF with Beachcomber and the Dead End deluxe. Junk like that. Now the pegs are full of one step changers and all of that, and I know why they are doing that as well.

I just look forward to these 'movie year' releases because of all of the extra stuff that usually gets released...
