From a marketing standpoint I am curious why they chose to make Sari a girl instead of a boy. I know when I was growing up watching Transformers I was always envious of Spike because he was a boy just like me (well I didn't wear construction hats but you get the idea) who got to be drawn into the world of Transformers. I don't think I would have identified as well if it were a girl character mostly due to my age bracket, etc. Since Transformers tends to be a more boy oriented toyline and this one is admittedly towards a younger audience I wonder what the thought was behind making the human character female. I don't want this to be a bash thread or anything but any objective ideas on why you think they chose the character the way they did?
No idea. She's definitely a different character than what we'd normally get, though - perhaps with her scientist father, it was decided to go with a girl so she wasn't too similar to Kicker? Both have scientist fathers they don't see all that often, after all.
Because little girls are cuter than little boys. But yeah, this does seem kinda weird for a cartoon meant for wee lads. I don't have any objections to this though.
I didn't think it made a difference, but you've got a point about the marketing bit. Seems like a boy woulda made more sense...
well...as a wee lad, I had the hots for Carlee, Penny (from Inspector Gadget), and Princess Allura. I'm male...this could work for little ones. The thought of having the hots for Sari at this point makes me feel really unclean...
Hilarious! I always hoped they would say something like that just once in one of the episodes. I picture Lady Jaye or Duke saying it.
Can't say i have a clue as to why they decided to go with a young female human character, but i ain't complaining. I support more main female characters in TV shows coz i tend to think they're usually under-represented compared to males. It does feel like a bit of a nice change from the usual young male character.
actually sari's an article of ethnic indian clothing. in fact i thought it was weird as ive never heard of sari as an indian girls name. its like naming a white girl 'pinafore'
Maybe they thought it would be more... original to use a female character in a show about GIANT ROBOTS instead of the generic "COOL ROBOTS!" boy.
Maybe they figure most of the li'l boys are watching for the robots, and adding a girl to the mix might bring in some girls who might not watch otherwise. Also, little girls are far less annoying than little boys.
That is a very good point though I do find little girls to be just as annoying as little boys but in different ways.
I think because TFs are now appealing to both genders more than one. Sari is a different take on an old role and that's where most of her success lies. The boys still have Bumblebee to relate too, aswell. (being "kid appeal character") I think it was a very good idea.
Thinking about it more, maybe they thought a girl would better encompass emotional and caring attributes. They wanted a human character that would really 'feel' for and form a personal attachment to the Autobots.
