Hey guys I’m new here but I have a quick question. So a friend of mine started talking about how he really wants to get his hands on the Mastermind creations Knight Morpher Commander but he said it is quite hard to find now these days. I got interesting myself and yeah he’s right I haven’t seen a single listing for this guy anywhere. Does anyone know why this figure is so hard to find or know any website that actually still has this figure on sale? I think if I find this guy it will really make my friends day as he has been going through some tough times.

It is probably hard to find because it was there seconded release and like the shockwave, it has never been reissued.

Robotkingdom still has the Shattered Glass one, that’s all I can find.

 

Wow that’s weird why of all the versions that one is in stock? I thought that one was extremely limited compared to the standard release but I will pass the information on to my friend thanks!

 

It is probably so hard to find because it hasn't been made for over (or almost) 10 years and even at that was in very limited numbers. Most of which sold at one store in Victoria, BC (Cherry Bomb iirc) as an exclusive. This was a very early 3rd party release and one of MMC's first if not THE first. It was also, reportedly, very fragile. Some of the repaints may be a bit more available.

 

Its a ten year old figure, released back in a time when third party figures werent as commonplace and production runs were likely in the low to mid hundreds. Thats why its hard to find.

 

It is an old outdated antique, LEAVE IT!!!

Just get more recent stuff that is still available, or done in the last few years, to get the best in latest engineering and built and paint and fun, such as:

Ocular Max Saltus
or
MMC Inventa and MMC Alpha / Beta / etc..
or
Fanstoys Roadking and/or Spoiler
or
TFC Rolling Thunder
or
Jiang Xing JX Metalbeast
or
DX9 La Hire

just to name a few...

Given X-Transborts has now upped their game when concerning stability, Virtus' suerior design should make it the better figure. Saltus and Apache seem to be very interchangable, while Virtus is on track to become the best out of the three.

Thanks also yeah I heard about the hot soldiers centurion my friend was telling me about that one. Also I didn’t know hot solders made an Optimus one as well my friend seems dead set on finding the mastermind creations version though. Also I saw Centurion and I’m not going to lie I kinda want him now I love his little train mode!

As I understand it too, the QC on Commander wasn’t great, either. They weren’t the MMC we’d eventually know and love quite yet on their front.

Didn’t he get a second release though that had all that fixed? I know Annihilator (the Nemesis repaint) had a reworked mold with the QC reissues resolved; it’s the one I have.

 

I think both Nemesis and SG had QC issues fixed. I love this mold from the 3P historical perspective, it looks so dang cool, and because when will we ever get more Hearts of Steel designs? I'd crowd fund a steam engine Prowl and Trailbreaker in a heartbeat.

 

I love him still, + he suppose to be outdated.

 

He's definitely a fun figure and they released Shockwave and the Seekers as well, there's also a Bumblebee floating around from the HoS series.

The only problem with them is that the plastic that was used feels more brittle and much thinner than other releases, leading to breakage of different parts, especially tabs and pegs. They're good if you are aware and handle them with care though.

I definitely understand wanting to get hold of them, it was a fun aesthetic and no one else has really done anything with it since then.

While great figures, none of these really represent the HoS aesthetic at all.

 

Action Toys Steam Robo is a nice little non-tf transforming train that might also be your style.

As for brittleness, never managed to get hold of the others but I have the HoS seekers, and while their plastic is a lot harder than HasTak, they’re nowhere near as fragile as their reputation says.

 

Also keep in mind there are two versions of Commander. The original first release kind of sucked in terms of quality. MMC corrected most of the issues with Knight Morpher Annihilator (black version) and the Shattered Glass version, and then released a limited run of Commander using the revised Annihilator mold. I had all three and the V2 Commander and Annihilator are great. Still have Annihilator. It’s clearly showing it’s age in terms of engineering but the quality is just fine.
