    Food for thought:

You know it's strange to me that they've expanded "cityformers" or as we know them now as Titans, city transformers and there are plenty of them. A race full of them though what about Planet Transformers or God Transformers in this case? The only ones are Primus, Unicron, Gaea, and Atlas but how come there aren't more like them?

Like Ice Planet Formers, Desert Planet formers, or even Jungle Planet Formers. I wonder why nobody has attempted to make more planets and I don't mean a whole race of them I mean, just a few more to help expand the TF Universes more. I figure they didn't make more is because to avoid overpowered characters or because no one thought of making another one.

I love this question. And I agree. Why not to expand them? Or expand concepts and do introduce something even more surreal?

Having more of them in one story could provide lots of potential.

And by something new, I also really like the concept of Alpha Q who creates planets and stuff, even with Unicorn. Something more surreal like this, or planetformers with even more surreal abilities… why not to dive deeper into fantasy… just saying :)

    Dilutes the concept.

Well I think we're well over due to see a decent Primus vs Unicron brawl but like decepticon and autobots that turn into actual planets?? That'd be OP as frak if you have a planet former on your side victory's pretty much guaranteed. Only thing that stopped Unicron in the film was the matrix without it he would've just continued destroying everything. Plus why would decepticons this big be loyal to Megatron who they could crush like an insect?

I think it's impractical to build so many of them for one.

One problem would be scale, though since size-changing is part of the TF mythos that probably can't count anymore....

Another problem is the circular design. Either it's a complete shell or the robot is just going to look fat.

A planet is literally the biggest physical object that a TF can turn into. Something that size holds a certain air around them, it's a big deal to turn into a planet in TF lore. Adding more to that would dilute it, like AutobotAvalanche said.

You mean a planet form is boring? Unicron, Primus, Gaea and Atlas?

I never said a race of them. I mean just a handful of planet gods.

And wouldn't you say the same for Titans? Did it dilute the concept of Titans? From ancient, hidden to modern? Even though the IDW expanded the idea of Titans even further. So I'm not sure how this would dilute the concept.

And that would stop anyone from making another planet former? TF-Fan Club made Gaea.

I don't really think the scale would be a problem since most of them have abilities to enlarge or shrink.

If you're thinking of Grand Galvatron or the G1 Unicron toy concept, then that doesn't count.

My point exactly. If Titans get the same treatment, why not planets? After all, in every different mythos in real life, there is always a handful of gods. Maybe even make well-known Planets like Velocititron or Animatron being sleeping giants. :D

When did that happen? Remember that if you say "IDW", that's a single continuity amongst a HUGE amount of others where there isn't "a race full of them".

Let me clarify, IDW expanded the idea of city Transformers that lead them to be Titans as we know them now. In the G1 days, they were nothing more than giant transforming cities, now they have more of a story like most things that are brought back from the G1 days, and that continued into other continuities. That's when it happened.

As for Planet Transformers like Primus or Unicron, they already did that and their names are Gaea and Atlas.

A single continuity is still canon.

I liked the Universe comics years ago where Unicron plucked Transformers from various realities to battle on his surface.

I'd like to see something like that revisited.

I'd actually kind of like this to show up again in something someday...just because it's totally hilarious:

This idea is making me think of Marvel’s Celestials.

Could work, but I think it works best with only one planet-former.

No, because it's a dumb idea.

The first problem is that whenever they're used, it's generally a terrible story. Also, FWIW, I had to look up Atlas as I've never heard of it and I'm glad I hadn't. Even Unicron is so overused it's not even mildly interesting. The second problem is that there's a clear lack of interaction between the size classes unless the planet is actually a small asteroid size or has something more meaningful to interact with, there's not much of a play pattern there, which is the key point in any toy based franchise.

Even your list is exaggerated, Gaea, Atlas, and Unicron are all Earth in certain continuities, it's not like they're all different planets and two of them were only used once. That alone should tell you there's something wrong with the concept.

It's hard enough to reconcile Titans with the others, trying to use a planet is even harder and usually results in a significantly weaker story.

I stand by what I said. Even if you put horns and a ring on a ball, you still just have a ball with horns and a ring around it. I find Lamborghinis, freightliners, F-15's, Walther P-38's, and even tape decks more exciting than a ball.

For me, Unicron is the only planet- bot I need. I follow the cartoon over the comics so I don't even particularly care for Primus, let alone the others that came after. I have the Amazon exclusive repaint of the Armada Unicron with the retooled head. It doesn't even bother me that his alt mode isn't a perfect sphere because I always planned on displaying him in robot mode.

It hasn't though. Citybots are just citybots and, in most continuities, there's only a handful of them. And I think that's how the planetformers should be too. Just a handful.
