why does product placement bother people?

    I'm just curious...

It doesn't bother me, it makes it look more real having real life brands in it.

    I can easily ignore it.

I disagree. No one was shooting at the moment, they were kind of at a lull. The bottle was right there and he just opened it and took a drink and carried on. If he had to climb inside of the truck with a giant bud lite logo in view at all times to get it, opened the bottle and pounded the entire thing without stopping while showing the logo. Then slammed the bottle down on the roof of a car, still showing the logo and yelled "Damn! This cold, refreshing Bud Lite tastes great and gives me the energy to keep fighting giant alien robots!" That would be forced.

Doesn't bother me, in fact, I like to make a game of trying to spot everything. Though it can be annoying when the placement is blatantly obvious. Like characters always drinking everything with the labels showing.

I mean, if a character is drinking a can of coke, it won't make me think "damn, I want some coke now!", I'd just ignore it.

The real world is saturated with product placement, major cities have shitloads of advertising everywhere. It would look weird if everyone in movies drank generic beer brand beer or cola brand cola.

It depends on how it's done. I don't mind real brands popping up, we're surrounded by product logos at all times so I'm kinda desensitized to them as background noise. But if they get an inordinate amount of focus, and for no actual reason, then yeah that takes me out of the whole movie.

Incidentally, "fake" brands bug the crap out of me just as much as shoddy product placement. If you're going to replace an Apple logo (or that glowy thing on the back of their laptops) use a generic circle or something, not a damn pear.

That isn't the issue, it's when there's a scene or shot that is an advertisement in itself, like the above bond clip

Budlight is ok.. Beats is ok.. the chinese milk is too much over exposed it fills up 65% of the screen.

Oh, nobody complained about Wayne's World? LOL
Anyway, that movie carried the product placements very good. hahaha

I barely noticed any apart from the drink And the Pangu Plaza.

No wonder people thought this film was awful if they were watching the scenery, the labels on buildings and picking out every can and food wrapper when giant Robots are beating the living crap out of each other.

Because it just sucks you out of the movie. When Tucci held the Beats Pill, when the ship crashed into a Bud Light truck that SOMEHOW stayed clean, when there was a robot LITERALLY FUCKING BRANDED BY OREO, I'm no longer watching the adventures of the Autobots, I'm watching a fucking commercial shoved into the movie by executive whores with no respect for a decent story. Fuck product placement. FUCK. IT. HARD.

When it's casual it's fine. I can't walk down the street without seeing product pacement. Just adds realism.

What I find distracting are fake products.

The only one that bugged me in AOE is the Victoria's Secret bus.

And without that placement, or the forced relocation to China for the third act, the budget would be even less, which would mean less robot screen time and even more focus on humans.

Blatantly obvious product placement is an annoyance, but it's a necessary evil if we want bigger better films.

    He looked cool though.

Plus when Humans start building there own transfomers made for commercial use, i would be surprised if there weren't any branded robots.

Like Dispensor and 360 bot in the first film, no one complains about them, hell people have wanted figures of Dispensor for ages (which has finally happene, YEY!) but suddenly Oreo have a robot and everyones all "SHIT GUYS! PRODUCT PLACEMENT GALORE HERE"
