Why do the "twins" have mutant heads?

I've been avoiding major spoilers for the new movie, though I've seen the production shots and looked at the Toyfair info, and I have a serious question... why do the "twins", as people have been calling them, have mutant heads? Are they supposed to be dumb or something, or only half a personality? Are they comedy relief bots? Are they suffering from birth defects? What's going on here?

I actually like the other movie face designs well enough. I just can't fathom these heads - they look like they're from entirely different toys and glued on. The bot modes look fine, but the faces are just hideous.

They've been hush hush about the characterizations of the new cast, even Fallen hasn't been explained. The assumption is they're kid appeal characters to lighten the mood of the movie, which may be much darker than the last one with The Fallen seeming to be a much more serious threat.

Main speculation is because they combine. They start as the ice cream truck and then later split and get their own alt modes (and this could explain why their heads are messed up). And looking at their individual bot modes, each has one arm bigger than the other, and one half of their face is more correct, and for both they just so happen to be opposites of eachother (much like Jetfire and Jetstorm).

Hrm. That sounds interesting. I wonder if the toys will combine. Thanks for the info.

I think Micheal Bay wanted them created in his own image...or was that "devistator"? Man, the designs are just awful! Except for the Corvette. That is one nice bot.

Okay I'm going to explain it all, once and for all:

The twins were experimenting with a new teleporter pod. Unfortunately on BOTH of their times through a fly got stuck in the pod with each of them, thus creating... BRUNDLEBOTS.

They'll be voiced Jeff Goldblum and Eric Stoltz respectively.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who thinks their heads are right messed up. That Autobot jet, I've forgotten the name, has a really messed up head too...for some reason it reminds me greatly of Wall-E. The heads on all three of those look so out of place with the rest of the designs and are what killed any desire for me to pick them up.

Maybe its just me, but I can't be the only one that thinks the inspiration for these two come from the big guy in The Goonies lol

They kind of remind me of what happens to gremlins when they get hit with sunlight.

While I'll agree that they do look kinda odd, I personally like them. Definitley not what I would have gone with though. I just hope that Skids's teeth are actually painted for the production model, though if they aren't, it won't be hard for me to do that myself. They may be weird, but they have a lot of personality in them, even for being solid plastic. They should have even more personality on the big screen, in theory at least.

You know....the more I look at them, the more I think these two may be the only ROTF toys I get.
Hey who knows, they might get their heads fixed by the end of the film...after all bumblebee randomly gained the ability to talk at the end of the first film

I have two theories that may answer the question. Either A. It's comic relief, or B. Bay is attempting to offend mentally-handicapped people.

Maybe they were trying to cash in on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle craze, but somehow got it all wrong. Bummer.

I thought of the dude from goonies too. That and the Toxic avenger.
