It is some thing that has occurred to me. The first transformations of a character in the films take quite long compared to how long they usually take. For eg on TF 1 blackout took ages to transform in the airforce base and in the city he transformed when th soldiers were in the alley and it took literally a second . Why didn't he transform quickly first off ? Then in rotf ironhide takes a while to transform in shanghai I don't remember in dotm but if you do post ur reply I thought I would mention it to see if anyone else noticed ?
Ye I kno that but Blackout took ages for his first transformation whereas in rotf when optimus transforms in the nest base it looks cool but still quick Don't get me wrong I don't dislike the slow transformations cos as u guys said it does look cool but there are major differences between the first and the rest of the transformations (I hope that makes sense )
they can transform at the pace that they feel like. if they feel like taking their time (blackout) they can and if they're in the middle of a battle it's best to transform quickly.
Well, to be fair, Optimus transformed a total of 3 times during his re-intro in ROTF (robot > truck > robot). And considering that this occurred while being dropped from a plane and landing on a freeway/bridge, I'd say that's long and dramatic enough.
Because when they first aquire a new vehicle mode, they'll probably want to check if everything fits. There's a lot of moving parts, and rushing it would be like forcefully zipping up the fly on a pair of pants you're trying on for the first time. You don't want anything down there to get "caught" because you were too eager to try on your new pants.
The first transformers convert the slowest because they are, in fact.... the first. Blackout was the first Transformer to beginning the entire TF movie series. Naturally, it was quite necessary to build a strong debut transformation to initiate the film, and it would never work if the transformation went by too quick. Just like a good plot, it needs the build slowly in order to keep interest. If you start a movie with a climatic 10-min battle, it'll feel way too rushed. Same with Ironhide's transformation in the beginning of ROTF. The conversion happens slowly and dramatically to make an obvious and clear statement: Transformers is back. DOTM did something similar but not entirely the same thing. The first complete transformation is performed by Mirage (I think), but the dramatic beginning sort of takes place with the awakening of Sentinel and his transforming eye (it was good, but not as well done as the others). If these transformations were rushed, it would ruin the mood for the introductions.
I think the OP was talking about scenes like when Blackout first transforms at the SOCCENT base. Dialogue right before the scene indicates that the exact helicopter Blackout is impersonating (4500x) was reported shot down at least a week earlier, so Blackout has had time to adjust to his new forms.
