    Ebay:
Because people overestimate how much their stuff is worth. There has also been a custom MP Prime up there for months (painted silver for the Hate-spore) that has a starting bid of $400. In any event, Pirhannacon guy here is a little late to get that kind of $$ now that the reissue is out I'd imagine.

Why? Because there are still lots of collectors out there who are not aware of sites like TFW and BBTS, and as such will use EBay as a tool to figure out the worth of said product. Someone might offer him 1000 or more, and he will gladly take it a move on. Hell, he might be selling it BECAUSE of the Seacons reissue.

Even before the reissue they were never that damn rare, thier are vintage Dicalone stuff in the box mint that goes for less on ebay.

Also the paint job on that Prime is horrible.. This guy is just giving Takara another reason to reapaint MP Prime.

AFA buyers and people who wait for reissues are different markets.
You can argue the demerits of AFA as you wish, but the fact remains that the original North American release of Piranacon is a rarity in itself.

10K is probably a bit pricey, but if the right person comes along, it could still sell for thousands.

...any if anyone has the hackneyed old 'Anyone who spends that much money on a toy they can't play with is stupid' response, plenty of people
think that grown men who spend 60 bucks on a reissue of a 20 year old toy are stupid too.

Good question. I have no idea as I never bothered to keep track on it. I don't understand why people would pay so much for an original when the reissue is just as good and a whole lot cheaper.

The US Piranacon giftset is right up there amongst the rarest of all US releases, certainly top ten, perhaps top five.

    Ebay:
A US Piranacon is the rarest of all G1 Giftsets. Followed closely by Computron and Defensor. Not only were the giftsets produced in fewer numbers than the loose combiner pieces but it is also still sealed. Making this particular item twice as rare. Throw in the fact that it is AFA graded (like it or not) and this is the perfect storm of rare, collector pieces. How many other AFA graded, sealed Piranacon giftsets exist? According to AFA's resource site only 4. And this is one of them. Effectively, the seller sets the price in this case.

    It is rare alright.

But I'll spend my stack of cash on the Japanese version instead.

And not forgetting you get ONLY 5 Seacons out of that. :lol

The air is so rarefied up there, it wouldn't surprise me one bit if there are a few people who have an AFA Piranhacon and an AFA King Poseidon as well.

I hate when you have to scroll 3 pages before you find out it is AFA Qualified, and not real AFA...
