It's far easier to just think of each of them as their own universe. Throw in something like the toy bio on some characters that aren't alive in the movies but alive in the toy line and it's even crazier.

Sort of like the parallel universe things you see in sci fi all the time. You know most things are the same but some things are different because it's not the same universe.
