I have been playing a lot of Apex lately and think it would lend itself to a GREAT GI Joe game with all the Joes and Cobras as the "Legends" with some of their classic abilities. Could be a great way to include some of the vehicles as well! Your thoughts?

 

Because it's practically a dead property at this point. As much as I like GI Joe, it just isn't a thing anymore.
What company in their right mind is going to design a game and spend money on the GI Joe license when they can come up with their own IP? An IP that they'd have full control over, that they can license out on their own and won't have to deal with renewing with Hasbro.

 

Maybe.. I still think a LOT of people would play it, if done right. A LOT of nostalgia there. Plus another movie is being made..

 

Compared to Transformers, I doubt a G.I.JOE game would sell. It could probably work if the franchise is handled with care.

 

Would be cool. Or a GI Joe Battlefield to drive n fly joe cobra vehicles.
All having the old school blaster sounds.

 

A command and conquer-like joe game would awesome.

 

Because it would be made by ea?

 

Back in the day, some enterprising soul would have modded that to become reality......

 

GIJoe Battlefront is a perpetual missed opportunity.

I just want another GIJoe game like that shoot-em-up arcade game from the early 90's. That game was a hell of a lot of fun.

 

You realize that Apex Legends just came out (relatively speaking), and that AAA game development can take anywhere between 2-5 years when things go smoothly, right? You can't just turn around and immediately cash in on another game's success.

That aside, the battle royale format is a terrible conceptual fit for two franchises that fundamentally pit two factions against each other.

Overwatch pretty much just is futuristic GIJoe. Rival ninjas included.

 

I do not agree. It does not really matter WHAT faction they are from. You would be able to select Joes or Cobra troops ONLY within your squad, but either way, whomever wins it would just show the squad won and who they represented. They could even have two diff Championship endings. BR games like Apex and Fortnite have been around a while, though. And, yes it would take a while, but I see no reason why they couldn't do it. Different Joes and Cobra troops would each have things only THEY can do, just like Apex Legends's characters. Think... Spirit could do what Bloodhound can do. Or Gung Ho (or maybe Bazooka) could do what Bangalore can do. I think it would be awesome...

 

Becomes the latest online multiplayer craze, gets delisted by Activision at the height of it's popularity.

Anyway, don't really care for Joe, don't think it has the popularity to survive a mobile game, just came for the joke; but while competing teams (Overwatch) is the more obvious fit what little I know about the latest setting of the IDW reboot could work for a battle royale pretending those things have stories. Yes I know some of the companies pretend too.

But anyway, make Cobra the setting rather than a player. Maybe you can get ex-Cobra gear, just add some dents and it's like "hey I just found this on the ground" or "I tried to stage a coup and now I was sentenced to death by battle royale. I'm still loyal to Cobra, Cobra aren't loyal to me!" That's probably two different types. You can buy gear to design your character like the latter, or just find stuff on the ground which will stick with you for that match. If you've bought stuff, there will still be defensive incentives for picking stuff up. Cobra armour over Cobra jumpsuit.

Maybe people dress up as Solid Snake, um I mean Snake Eyes but none of them are the original. Yellow tank tops are in fashion in the resistance. Vary areas up with areas under stricter Cobra rule, wastelands and um... does GI Joe have any settings worth remembering? (I don't know them but I had to type out Solid Snake to realise I really meant Grey Fox). Scatter those throughout. No reason there can't be an orange desert with a secret base in a mountain. Maybe the occupants never awoke, maybe they left. Now people fight for control in it. Anyway original point of different landscapes is you can get in those wacky Cobra Vehicles in the areas under their control and Mad Max-ed Joe toys elsewhere. No normal cars allowed!

And I assume someone who remembers the names of people other than Cobra Commander, Destro and Baroness could do even better before it is DELISTED BY ACTIVISION, GOODNIGHT EVERYBODY!

 

I'd like to see SNK do a Metal Slug style game out of G.I. Joe and have them rip apart Cobra with grand cartoonish violence.

 

Warcraft 3 style RTS would probably work fairly well. Bases cranking out various vehicles and generic troopers, named Hero units, Macguffin of the week findable on the map that can alter the course of the battle.

But licensing isn't worth it

 

A third-peson shooter would be interesting to see.
