There's a whole line planned out, they just released concept art for the re-imagined Fortress Maximus:

Voyager Beast Machines Obsidian. And I want it now.

I understand that G1 was the first line for a lot of people, and it will always sort of be immortal to that extent, but Beast Wars, RiD and some of the more obscure stuff kept it alive.

    I want my fanwank =D

Mattel treat MOTU the way they do because they don't have any choice.

MOTU spluttered and stalled in the mid 80s and never came back.
Early 90s He-Man was a muted success at best.
Early 2000s He-man did..okay, until Mattel screwed up the case assortments.

They're rehashing He-Man as it was in the 'good old days' because that's what it's best known for.

Hasbro on the other hand have a wealth of options on TFs.

Transformers has been a steady performer for most of it's history, toys have come on in leaps and bounds, there's a lot of history to draw from, and from a monetary point of view, the brand has done very well generally.

There can't be a definitive G1 line. Demands from retailers on cost and assortments make an 'accessible' recreation of a G1 line impossible. Full stop.

..and the Masterpiece line. $100 dollar toys, out of the reach of most including the volume retailer customers that Hasbro need to target.

I'm not sure what's going on here. We already have a 'definitive' G1 line, it's the actual G1 line itself!
Interpretations of this are CHUG and MP, which are about as good as it's ever possible to get, albeit MP has a vastly reduced range of figures.
I mean, in Classics Prime is a red truck and Megatron is a gun etc.
    What's the question again?

judging from the size & shape of the Brick,it looks like a Power master optimus Prime updated homage new mold in combined mode. I wonder if they'll be a small pebble stone to represent HI-Q the powermaster.

Yeah, but Classics Prime and Megatron don't appear in syndication several times a week, battling it out, and determining the fate of the Earth in 20 minutes plus commercials.

(some) people are expecting Hasbro and Takara to recreate a G1 that never actually existed. If nothing else, these expectations are a testament to how effective Hasbro's marketing was.

I think the more recent items have been better there has been less scale issues and random issues since they stopped making Universe Ultras I've had few real complaints as they were the problem area with me due to scale issues.

And i'm not much of a fan of Onslaught either I don't like that he's a combiner leader that does not combine and I don't like that the gun stick on things when you push the toy but that aside that's why I prefer those molds as non combiner leaders when they were repainted into other characters.

I also think I'm still waiting on a definitive G1 derived Optimus too. with the Voyager being to much of a design change - That's why Faith Leader is such a good toy it lacks the scale issues of the Masterpiece and is bigger than the Voyager and looks like the charcter with out a radical design change over 25 years ago.

Other then Classics/Henka isn't Masterpiece and Alternators/Binaltech the closest thing to a definitive toy line to Generation One as well?

The thing with MOTU is that Mattel has nothing else to do with the franchise right now. There is no show and the movie has been stuck in developmental hell for years. They have little choice but to cater to the hardcore older fans.

I really loved the new MOTU cartoon and wanted a season 3 with Hordak since the entire season hinted on his coming. The comic doesn't count in my opinion it's cartoon or nothing at all.

I think we need to make a distinction here :

    - people who prefer the G1 Cartoon look

    versus

    - people who prefer the G1 Toy look

Personally, for most characters, I prefer the toy look. That's why I think
the articulated G1 toys by Turboedguy are genius. Best example which comes to mind is his articulated Prime.

I would love to see a articulated G1 Megatron because I really like the G1 Megatron toy more than MP Megatron.

We already have a definitive G1 line. It ran from 1984 - 1991 and was the best TF line ever.

    What's the problem?

    - they're rare (MISB)
    - pricey
    - they really needs some up to date articulation ( see turboedguy's custom work )

And then we got Classics/Universe/Henkei and Generations as well. I'd say GEEWUNNERS are the best-treated fans in town.

Umm, the real question is why we can't get a definitive G1 cartoon based on all the awesome updated G1 toys we got the past however many years.

Comics are for catering to the nostalgia market. Television is not.

God, I love G1, but if this hobby didn't offer anything new I'd be bored of it in weeks.
