why are reviews saying that it is equally as good as the first?

Many reviews are stating that it is equally as good as the first.

And before the movie came out, we were all saying, it is going to be way better than the first.

All we really wanted was more robot screen time, that's it.

So supposedly that is what we're treated to in the 2nd movie (I haven't seen it yet).

So why are reviewers still saying that it is equally as good as the first??

To me, just from what I read and seen, the story sounds EXACTLY like or is a variation of the first one with a few back story elements. So I'm just expecting a very very simple plot.

Acting and humor is gonna be the same as the first.

But most importantly, they have more robots, more robot dialogue and more robot action..............isn't that what we all wanted???

So that's what we got and yet, people are still mixed on saying if it is better?

Oh how hard it is to please all. I only care for the robot action. The in between action scenes in Michael Bay movies are just an excuse to move onto the next action scene.

One of the reasons why they couldn't get enough robot scenes in the first movie was because this is what you get with a $145 million dollar budget. Well they increased it to $200 million, so Michael Bay gave us what we all demanded, more emphasis on robots.

Now the reviewers are saying.............less is more.

I like the first film ALOT. It has its flaws but is entertaining and just brings out the kid in me. So I am sure I am going to like this one even more.

But if a reviewer actually says the first film is better than the 2nd film, I'm gonna go nuts.

It's the problem with the director we have.

He can do bigger and better visual effects but he just doesn't budge when it comes to the other aspects of film making. So it's really not a shocker for reviews to peg it about the same.

Yes we have more robots which is good for all us Transformers fans, but if they are just there for more explosions, more fighting, and more of Bay's brand of humor all that more might not translate into more for people watching the film. I know it seems kind of weird but you can actually have too much action no matter how good that action looks, that's why action films have other elements to them to keep you from burning out on the action.

Plus just like Bay doesn't change as a director people don't tend to change in how they feel about him as a director. If you like the guy's work he doesn't give you much reason to start disliking his work, but if you don't like his work he doesn't offer you anything to start liking his work. So I wouldn't expect reviewers to radically change their view just because there are more robots.

that's true, I was just hoping that after so many early previews of the film, that ONE person could at least be a little more excited and postive about the movie and say confidently that it is better than the first.

So far the consensus is that it is equal. But I don't care, if I wanted a great story, I will watch something with Tom Hanks in it. If I want something with great dialogue, I will watch True Romance.

I'm expecting the story to be as complex or a little more complex than the episodes in G1. And that's not saying very much.

You know what will be interesting to know?? The opinions of the people who enjoyed the first film. If someone who enjoyed the first film, thought the 2nd film is not as good, that will have more of an impact because we're talking about people who enjoyed a similiar type of movie and yet when they add more brainless elements in it (namely the action and more robots) and if that was not good enough for them, then it is officially EVEN MORE impossible to please everyone. Because it already is impossible enough.

Because nerdfans with hard-ons for robots demanding 'things' as if their opinion mattered int he grand scheme of things are not the ones writing these reviews.

Only close-minded haters demanded more robots. Not everyone disliked the human aspects of TF1 and some of us actually liked those characters.

So while you see meaningful robot fighting or robot dialog, real people see special effects, get back to the humans please.

Most of the reviews I have read are honest and have perspective while most of the fandom reviews are like a school nurse going through a scalp with a fine tooth comb looking for lice to pick out and complain about.

Here is an idea... wait to see the movie and make your own opinions instead of making another bitch thread about robots and bay and how fans demand things?

In all fairness though we've only seen a very few reviews because the film hasn't opened most places yet. Once the film hits the reviewers in the United States we should be flooded with reviews so who knows how the reviews will turn out then.

Plus maybe it's a cultural thing with how the Brits review films. I must admit I haven't read very many British reviews so maybe that's just how they review sequels on the other side of the pond.

That bothers me too. With more action & better visuals, you would think reviewers would say stuff like "Kick ass". Instead we get "equal to the first movie"? Hell, this movie looks better than the first just from the trailers alone!

Agreed. I think people are just saying it's similar to/only just as good as the first on because they hate some aspects of the movie (like the twin's faces) but thought the movie itself was awesome, therefore the movie is just on par with the first because all the awesomeness is partialy canceled out by the few things the reviewers just can't get over (like the twins), thus leaving only enough awesome to be equal to TF1.

Because the director isn't Irvin Kershner or James Cameron.

Look at his last effort of trying to make the sequel better than the first. (Bad Boys 2)

Exactly like the first? To me that says the movie probably sucks. Which I hope is not the case.

Seriously what is there to be so worried about? If its "just as good as the first" then its still going to make money, still going to be popular with the masses. So whats the big frikkin deal.

It don't matter how great transformers fans think the movie is with tons of bot action and special effects. The Citizen Kane and Sex In The City fans ain't going to all suddenly become die hard transformer fans, when (if) they see ROTF. But if they can at least find the flick more entertaining than an Uwe Boll movie, then there is nothing to worry about.

Bay makes flashy but breezy summer popcorn flicks. There is no indication that ROTF is going to be anything but more of the same. And there is nothing wrong with that. No matter how cool and awsome we might think bot bashing on bots is...some folks just ain't going to see it that way.

Simply because a professional film reviewer finds it only as satisfying as TF1 doesn't mean that a TF fan won't find RotF far more pleasing. As the original poster says, we seem to be getting what we want. Which is not necessarily what the reviewer wants. Also, how common is it for sequels to be better in the grand scheme of things?

Exactlly dude that is why michael bay will never have a movie that ranks in amongst some of the greatest movies ever.
Sure you can spend a fortune on blowing things up that looks "COOL" but if there are no devalopment of story or characters then it aint going to have people coming back years later to watch it again.

I hope in 10-20 years the TF movie franchise is rebooted and we get someone decent to make these movies.

To me michael bay cheats ppl out of what they want. ppl complained in the first movie that there wernt enough bots not enough screen time for the cons etc.
So he decides ok il keep these idiots happy and just chuck in over 20 cons with no explanation about them and make copies of each other NOT JUST FROM ROTF but of bonecrusher and blackout from the first movie.

To me the TF movies are just a big propoganda tool to make ppl want to buy shitty GM cars and to show other countries what toys they have to blow them up if they try anything.

Michael bay is just another new age movie maker who spent a fortune, chuck togeather a cheesy plot then focus on how big the explosions are and worry about the story later.

so congrats bay u got ur stupid lil record of biggest explosions ever.................a pitty you will never have a movie that has a ranks with other great action movies.

I wouldn't worry about what other people say about the movie. There have been many movies that the critics raved about that I didn't like at all. Same with Transformers, I loved the first one but someone else will say its a piece of shit. I say just wait till it comes out and make your own assessment. I myself can't wait for the 24th to get here, despite what I hear from critics or anyone else.

Thank you. People are swearing Avatar is gonna be the greatest film ever. T2 and Titanic are great films, but when you make one film a decade shouldn't they be good?

Bays no storyteller, but damn if I don't respect his work ethic and eye for visuals. If he ever figures out how to master story telling, he'll be one of the all time greats. Hell he's only been making movies almost 15 years.

absolutely, he is definitely a master of visuals. The only other time I was blown away by visuals was from stuff Spielberg and Cameron

I'm just watching Transformers for the visuals
