One of the few things that made sence in the past was Megatron and Starscream hiding in the middle of Africa...you know, not under the searchers noses!

But no, Autobots go into hide in the u.s. Optimus Prime, the Crew he found, and ratchet where as close to Langley as you could be. Where the evil organization (sorry forgot their name) has more resources than nowhere.

This could mean two things (besides sloppy writting). Either autobots are dumb as hell, or most of them (Dino, Sideswipe, etc) are hiding in actual good places as jungles, Siberia or whatever, or even outer space.

 

Same reason most movies produced in the US feature the US as the scene of the action. It's just a standard practice.

American movie will almost always focus on America. Most movies like to provide a plot point to tie them there (Stark Tower/Reactor in Avengers etc) but, well, the plot issues in the TF movies is a dead horse, but you get it.

Decepticons had humans secretly assisting them so they could have been responsible for helping Megatron Shockwave Soundwave and Starscream get to and from Africa.

Autobots meanwhile have no help. They can only get as far as they can on their own wheels.

 

Most of them can't fly. They were stuck there. Plus, even if Drift did try to fly out of the US, they would have sent some fighter jets after him and he would have been toast.

 

They can resort to their protoforms, then into their travel pods. That's how they all arrived on Earth in the first movie.

They had to be somewhere close so when they reassembled it would make more sense. If Crosshairs was hiding Europe how would he get back so quickly?
