We need a physical release of RiD01. We can't pirate it forever.
Though, from my understanding, the show is in ownership limbo.

What we know so far is that Hasbro imported it from Japan, where it was part of the G1 continuity as Car Robots. No edits were made to the show itself initially besides the vocal tracks, but after 9/11, several episodes had to be edited.

Saban Entertainment was given the license to dub it, and dubbed it over for Hasbro. That's when it presumably became RiD.

Haim Saban sold Saban Entertainment to Disney circa July/August 2001. The entire Saban library, including RiD01, Power Rangers, and Digimon was included in the sale. Saban would get rebranded ca. October 2001 by Disney. The name was then changed to BVS Entertainment.

Sensation Entertainment would be formed around this time, to help take up the job that Saban Entertainment did, which was dubbing. Sensation would be shut down shortly after Disney lost the Digimon license.

In 2010, Saban was reformed by Mr. Saban under a new name as Saban Brands. He bought back Power Rangers and Digimon. We have no idea if RiD01 was part of this deal.

This past year (2018), Saban sold Power Rangers and several other properties to Hasbro. We have no idea if RiD01 was part of this deal either.

That begs the question... Who owns RiD01?
    Is it Disney?
    Is it Saban?
    Or is it Hasbro?

i would assume hasbro always technically owned the series, its not like power rangers where saban owned the IP. hasbro contracted saban to dub it, but i highly doubt they handed ownership of the finished product to saban

I would think by now the dub should have reverted back to the original Studio or IP owner. I think dubs are rarely ever owned by the dubbing studio without having to renew the lisence to the show every so many years.

Its unfortunate but I don't think we'll ever really know the situation with RiD '01, and I don't think Hasbro cares.

That may be right, but its very likely they only have the rights to the animation and original audio logs from when it was Car Robots.

It should have reverted back to Hasbro by now, if they owned it.
I unfortunately have to agree with that last statement. Though there is some residual interest in it. (Takara's reissue of "Ultra Prime", the Thrilling 30 release of Sky-Byte, and Siege UM's truck cab design)

Disney owns the audio dub track that Saban did, but Hasbro owns the Western video rights under license by TakaraTomy. Yeah. It's a mess. That's why it's not out. Shout could release Car Robots in subtitles, but I think they're afraid that Disney will sue them, even if just to throw their weight around and bully Hasbro into paying them for the dub.

    Just torrent it.

I'd torrent it, but between places like YouTube being very, very gung-ho about copyright and the bans on adblockers for the torrenting sites, its a pain the in the fucking ass.

Idk if its still available, but a few years ago I got a pretty good quality DVD set of the complete series. It's not official, so I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post a link to it.

    EDIT:
I just checked the site I bought it from, and I can't find it.

Well, since it hadn't been taken down on YT, my guess is that whoever owns just doesn't give a crap.

    Episodes 1, 3, 4, 5, 21, 24, 25, 28 and 34 got recognized by YouTube's copyright claim system and are blocked worldwide.
I don't know why the other thirty episodes didn't get recognized.

    It says:
    "VIDEO NOT AVAILABLE
This video contains content from Hasbro Studios, LLC, who has blocked it in your country."

I suppose that this series is fully owned by Hasbro worldwide, except for Japan. Take a look at this map: YouTube region restriction checker
You can only watch that video in Japan.

Odds are, I'll be able to find those episodes outside of YouTube, likely on Vimeo or Dailymotion.
