So I'm enjoying the heavier G1 homages with the WFC trilogy. However I'm also starting to piece together which CHUG figures I'm going to sell after replacing some with WFC trilogy figures. Post which ones you're keeping and why!

Also, which figures didn't make the cut and why?

Here are figures I plan on keeping:
    • Ultra Silverbolt: fun toy, sturdy plastic, pleasant transformation, RATCHETS! Yea it doesn't combine but it's fun on its own
    • Ultra Onslaught: same reasoning as above
    • Voyager Inferno(2008): excellent sculpt and intricate detail
    • Classics Jetfire: great scale with voyager WFC Starscream and more of a G1 toy homage
    • CW/LG leader Megatron: the presence, paint and sculpt all save this figure for me despite my qualms with the low placed shoulder joints and narrow/lanky silhouette from the front.
    • POTP leader Optimus: saving due to the G1 Orion Pax homage(never thought we would get a heavy homage, one that evolves at that!) and the combined Optimus mode helps cap the Prime Wars trilogy for me with an equal pairing for leader Megatron
    • POTP Optimus Primal: neat homage and fun
    • T30 Brainstorm: dig both modes and the size
    • LG Brainstorm: different and unique enough to keep, that head sculpt is awesome!
    • LG Blurr: WOW. Nailed the G1 look
    • All LG Decepticon jet Targetmasters: I like them a lot
    • Henkei voyager Megatron: a gun Megs that's fun to transform with solid construction(and I don't mind the wings)
    • TR Blitzwing: fun for me due to transformation, the Headmaster gimmick AND THANK YOU HASBRO FOR NOT MOLDING THE NOSE FROM PVC!
    • LG G2 Megatron: same as above plus it's enough of a Hero Megatron homage for me
    • TR Sixshot: loose knees aside, very fun figure, hand candy
    • LG Arcee: nailed the G1 look
    • LG Nightwind: same as above plus good retooling and I never thought we'd get something like it!
    • TR Soundwave: one of the most solid TR leaders with good joints, wish the Headmaster gimmick was optional as it is on the other TR leaders sans Blaster. Plus I prefer the tape gimmick here over the WFC version
    • TR Blaster: same as above
    • TR Rumble/Frenzy/Rewind: my favorite TR tapes that didn't feel underwhelming unlike the others.

The WFC figures have been great toys and look nice so far, but the simplified aesthetics and transformations have made me double down on my decision to keep older CHUG figures whenever possible.

This way I'm not starting my collection all over again, but I still get to experience some fun new stuff, i.e. Brunt, Apeface, etc. But as time goes on I find myself liking the design choices and transformations for the older figures more and more. Even with Sunstreaker on the horizon I'm planning to track down the Universe one. Same for most other 84-86 characters.

Except T30 Gears. He sucks. I will gladly get a new figure of him.

All of my Titans Return deluxes, and most of my combiner wars stuff I already sold, and I barely bought any POTP.

I’ve only been back into collecting for right about 2 years now, so, I don’t have nearly as many figures on the potential chopping block as many of you. The majority of my CHUGs are comprised of TR, POTP and Siege...all of which are pretty safe for the time-being. I only have a sprinkling of Classics, Universe, T30 and CW. But, for those older figures I own that have newer versions available or upcoming in WFC:

T30 Springer: This guy is such huge design departure from the Siege version and so awesome in his own right that I don’t think I will ever part with him. He’s a timeless classic.

TR Astrotrain: I honestly think I like him more than the Siege design...even the crazy train design

TR Megs: He is my defacto CHUG Megs...I didn’t even bother getting the Siege version

POTP OP: I think of this guy as Orion and a CHUG PMOP all rolled into one. And his bot mode is excellent, IMO. It will be interesting to see if they come up with a new PMOP in WFC. And even then I don’t think it would be enough to convince me to get rid of this guy.

Although I struggled with it, I ended up replacing several of my CHUG figures with Siege and Earthrise. Once I got my hands on some, I really liked the way the Siege figures are designed. I want my figures to be more similar, share the same size/proportions and gimmicks. I like the simplified transformation of Siege Sideswipe compared to his Classics version. I can pick something up and quickly play with it.

As for CHUG figures I'm keeping:

    Classics Jetfire because he's awesome.

Classics Starscream and friends. I have a CHUG seeker collection and really love the mold. Made my first customs from it. Tetrajets were an easy pass. Earthrise Starscream may change my mind, but no rush for me.

Classics Ultra Magnus because I still like his FansProject armor.

Figures like Wreck-Gar, Warpath and Sandstorm don't have many alternatives yet.

    EDIT - Forgot a few:

Classics Bumblebee because that happy smirk.

IDW Blurr and Drift because that mold is too cool.

Thus far I havent found a need to use any WFC figures as replacements. Only filling gaps of charecters I missed first time around. I already sold classics jetfire after getting T30. Still have treadbolt to represent the mold though. Kept Gen Perceptor even after getting TR to use as field combat body.
    Theres others I am sure.

Because my G1 collection is rooted in earlier CHUG and Combiner Wars, I'm going to do the reverse and list the TR, POTP, and WFC / Siege figures that were deemed worthy of replacing an existing figure, which is not many:
    - Earthrise Optimus Prime (currently have Siege Prime who replaced Classics Prime, and he too will be replaced)
    REPLACED)
    - POTP Hot Rod (replaced Classics Hot Rod)
    - TR Wheelie (replaced Universe 2.0 Wheelie)
    - Siege Megatron (who replaced TR Megatron, who replaced Classics Megatron)
    - Siege Astrotrain (who replaced TR Astrotrain, who replaced Classics Astrotrain)
    - Siege Soundwave (replaced Music Label Soundwave)
    - Various Cassettes
    - Siege Shockwave (replaced Cyber Battalion)
    - TR Octane (replaced Universe 2.0 Octane)

I think that's it. Most of these replacements were driven by scale desires, I think. Every other figure on my G1 shelves is from Combiner Wars or earlier. I think Blaster (I have the FOC version) is the only other character I'm looking to upgrade.

I have yet to find a modern figure that could replace G1 Prowl who got me into collecting as an adult 17 years ago.

I can honestly say there hasn't been a single figure I have that could be replaced with a WFC figure so far.

As much as I like Siege Megatron, his proportions still seem off. I wasn't impressed with the unpainted face of Titans Return Megatron so I'm still waiting for the definitive Megatron toy.

I love Siege Ultra Magnus but I'm still keeping Combiner Wars and G1 Magnus.

Likewise, while the Siege Seeker mold is my favourite Seeker mold ever, I'm still keeping the Leader Seeker mold and using the Armada and Cybertron Seekers to bulk up the ranks of the Siege Seekers.

Also Device Label, CW PM Optimus Prime and G2 Hero Prime haven't been replaced by Siege Optimus.

Can't see Generations RTS Jazz getting replaced in my display. I've also kept Universe 2.0 Sideswipe, Hound, Generations Red Alert and the older Datsun brothers (Prowl, Bluestreak, Smokescreen) instead of replacing them with the new Siege versions. Will see with Sunstreaker but unlikely to replace him.

Did replace the older versions of Ironhide, Ratchet, Mirage, Jetfire, Omega Supreme and Springer.

Will replace Siege Optimus with Earthrise, Grapple (and Inferno when they make him) Generations Hoist, Trailbreaker and Wheeljack!

I like to either customized the older figure that's getting replaced or display them in alt mode.

Off the top of my head, I'll be keeping:

    All of my Soundwaves:

CW Mirage (I sold the Classics version):

T30 Springer (I sold the Universe version from the two-pack):

All of my Astrotrains (though TR might end up on the chopping block much later):

    All of my Thundercrackers:

    All of my Skywarps:

All of my Jazzes (though I have no idea where FoC Jazz is, but I don't think I sold him):

    All of my Ultra Magnuses:

Yes, @Yaujta, all of my Shockwaves: :ev:

These Megatrons (sold T30 stealth bomber Megs earlier this year, and I'm probably gonna sell Classics):

All of these Optimus Primes (sold the RTS Deluxe earlier this year, but I don't know what I'm gonna do with CW Optimus, who has lost one of his guns):

And of course, all of my Jetfires, even the cheapy ones (sold the Titanium one years ago):

All of them. My outmoded figures go into the closet, but I didn't have most of the characters I bought from Siege before Siege, save for T30 Springer who I opted not to replace with the Siege version.

It takes quite a bit to make me want to "upgrade" rather than buy an exciting new (or new-to-me) character :D

I've tended not to buy toys unless I'm pretty happy with them; more inclined to wait for a version I really like, rather than buy a "this will do" stand-in of some sort. IDW1 brought me back to TFs and strongly influences my collecting. I also like to mix the sizes up a bit, for visual variation.

So Universe Sunstreaker is staying next to Siege Sideswipe, for example. T30 Jetfire, T30 Springer and CW Ultra Magnus fit my collection better than the newer ones. And I won't be getting rid of Prime Ratchet (Siege isn't grumpy enough) or Universe Prowl (the engineering is bobbins, the Siege one is loads better on a technical level, but I don't find Siege Prowl very... prowlish).

On the other hand, Siege Bluestreak wears the mould much better so Universe Bluestreak is on a final warning :)

I *might* replace Thrilling 30 Trailcutter with Earthrise. The T30 has some IDW design cues, which as I say is a big plus for me, but the toy design is such that they barely stand out. So a chunky G1-ish design might well win me over.

All figures Siege and after = in, all figures before Siege = out

Because scale. Might as well reboot the collection if they're remaking every character in-scale with each other, especially since I've waited 35 years for a unified-scale G1 line.

Might be keeping my FOC Blaster/Soundwave/Soundblaster/disks.

The Bakugan-Esque disk launching automorph transformation is fun!

Also keeping my FOC Seekers because they look good. In FOC they felt far sturdier than some of the other figures, I suspect the mold was actually designed for WFC 1st but were too late to get slotted in for release.

Everyone stays except for the Datsuns and Lambo's... And T30 Springer. But even if they make a new Sandstorm I'm keeping my T30 guy cause I like that VOTL alt mode.
