I'm currently watching "Rent" It's mesmerizing (and the "Over the Moon" song actually works unlike the film) Who else likes the theatre? I can't find any other thread about the theatre.
Last one I went to was Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, if memory serves me well. I've also seen Oliver and A Christmas Tale (Is that what's it called? The one with Scrooge?)
I used to go more often in the past, but I love going to the theatre. I saw a bunch of the "weird" musicals that were popular a few years ago (Evil Dead: The musical, Toxic Avenger: The musical, Spamalot, etc.), and I really liked Avenue Q. Gone to a few fringe festivals, the Shaw Festival, etc. I'm lucky that I live in an area where there's a pretty thriving theatre scene, though I should probably take advantage of it more, in terms of the independent theatres and more dramatic, rather than comedic productions. It can get very pricey though.
I go atleast once a year. I'd love to go more, it just seems things are rarely put on that I care about anymore. I mostly tend to stick to classics, and particularly I love Shakespeare.
I'm currently only going with the school for studying for purposes in Drama Saw a comedy of the 39 Steps and going to see something else in December, really enjoyed it the first time though
The comedy version of The 39 Steps is a great example of a small cast play, I totally had forgotten seeing it a few years ago until now.
I absolutely adore going to the theatre watching plays and musicals (I hate musical films but at the west end I love them), unfortunately most of my friends think theatre is boring so I usually go with my sister. Shakespeare's a personal favourite, god knows how many i've seen, think my favourite was "Much to do about nothing" with David Tennant and Catherine Tate, even got Tate's autograph afterwards I also remember years ago seeing Patrick Stewart perform A Christmas Carol on his own and it was absolutely brilliant. As for musicals I mainly like the fun ones, like Wicked, Spamalot, Oliver! and Avenue Q (that was just so funny, though when I saw it a second time at our local theatre the audience was half dead and I was pretty much the only one laughing, though they weren't as dead as when me and my dad went to see Spamalot)
Musicals can be fun. I make an effort to see some of the more popular Broadway shows when I have the time. Don't get to do it often though.
Theatre can be quite fun, much more so than a movie. The "live" element is what makes it so much more fun for me. That being said, I haven't been to a production in years. I should look into local companies around my area and see what's available to see.
I do musicals. I will not do Opera and Ballet. Before going in to film I was a classically trained musiciam so me liking musicals is not such a stretch. I have seen Phantom of the Opera 10 times including a preformance by KISS's Paul Stanley Miss Saigon Beauty and the Beast Lion King Jersey Boys We Will Rock You Rock of Ages I missed out on front row centre seats to see Wicked because my GF at the time had the tickets and I couldn't stay with her for another 3 months just for the show. lol and I just watched Sister Act last weekend.
That's not my forte unless school makes you do so. I got to play the Tortoise in The Tortoise and the Hare.
Just saw Spamalot and Young Frankenstein this year, but have fond memories of the Lion King for my 40th, and stealing a chair from my office when I was in the military, to sit in line at 3 am so I could get one of the 6 pairs of tickets that the Recreation Office got a hold of for Phantom at the Kennedy Center...then rolling my chair back to my office past the several hundred horribly jealous people who weren't going to get to see the show. I also saw Cats while I was in DC, but heck if I remember where, and my parents used to take us to the Music Man and A Christmas Carol when we were young and it was a cheap local production. --Moony
eactly and Phantom of the Opera is one such musical you HAVE TO see live, I've seen it in the movies it sucked I saw the stage version on video it wasn't as good as seeing it live. When that chandelier comes rushing past your head, when the boat goes through the stage and candleabras come up its like watching one magic trick after another plus the emotion that pours through the performances is SO MUCH better live.
I was in the school production of The Twelfth Night once. Homeless Woman Scene - 12th Night - YouTube But yeah, our school takes us on a few plays every year. We went to Midsummer Night's Dream last year. This year we saw Math Out Loud (Skip it) and we'll be seeing Peter Pan soon.
