The comics had the sparsest of information on this (we're talking 80s stuff, before Bay's movies existed) and they referenced "The One" who created everything in the universe including Unicron and Primus, but that concept has gone away because it's basically just referencing God and it's silly.

 

"The one" was a dimension in which created Primus and Unicron. They were brothers sent to explore the universe together. Primus found out his brother was filled with evil and created the transformers to help defend and fight Unicron.
But if you go by this it also conflicts with the quints creating the Transformers. Thus why G1 is filled with holes.

i'm guessing neither. i am more thinking the creator is the quints. like everyone else. which is good.

because that's a better story then primus and unicron. which has been over done to death by now.

Doesn't the Covenant of Primus (which I know is only recent, probably only applying to the TFP universe and not necessarily canon) try and say the Quints mislead the Cybertronians into thinking they were their creators?

 

Looks like you cannot differentiate between Marvel Comics and the Sunbow cartoon.

In the US Marvel and UK Marvel comics Transformers were created by Primus to take his place in defending life in the universe against Unicron. In the UK Marvel comics the Quintessons were a victim race of Unicron turned to his servants.

The Sunbow cartoon had no references to Primus but he does have an analog with Vector Sigma. Vector Sigma is the super computer that gives Transformers life and personalities. It said it existed before Cybertron existed. Its Key can cyberform a planet. The Matrix can also serve as an alternate key to Vector sigma. Vector Sigma also derives energy from stars with the Plasma Energy Chamber. Alpha Trion was a first generation product of Vector Sigma. Most importantly Vector Sigma has shown it manipulates its creations for its own unfathomable agenda as with Galvatron attacking the Autobots after declaring a ceasefire.

The Quintessons on the otherhand were the creators of the Transformer's ancestors made up of slave labor and warrior military production lines. They did not expect their creations to get emotions and eventually the robots revolted under A-3 aka Alpha Trion.

The Sunbow cartoon had a more complicated origin story while the Quintessons did build TF ancestors it was Vector Sigma that gave them life. (My theory is that Vector Sigma merely used the Quints to create a robot race it can manipulate.)

With the introduction of the Creators and Transformium we get a similar scenario that does not violate the Allspark origin. The Creators create the source of Transformer bodies while the Allspark gave the robots life with Energon and Sparks that made up of Energon.

 

But then what about the Hatchling - Transformers Wiki

 

"in which created" and "defend and fight Unicron" and you talk about holes in G1? Never mind the gaping chasms in your grammar.

honestly, primus sounds like a pussy, if he needs to create small robots to fight his battles with planet sized robots.

Haha! I always thought he said "God made us in his image, we made him!". Because they used earth vehicles to design themselves.... Silly me.
