This thread is similar to my "Who are the big 4 Autobots" discussion.
This thread was a little bit harder to make because I had to exclude 4 characters. But we work with what we got. The Autobots was easier to make cause there are several Autobots who can qualify for that honor. The Decepticons was way too obvious.
I will list ten characters just like Autobots.
Also alot of Decepticons don't make alot of appearances in other media, you may see Brawl one or twice but... that's it. Most Decepticons only have one cartoon to their name. Like Breakdown, Lockdown, and Knockout. None have consistent appearances.

    Rules:
No characters mentioned in the title, mainly because that's obvious.
    Combiner teams are allowed.

    Honorable Mentions
Cyclonus - Seems to appear more frequently in modern media
Scourge - One of Galvatron's minions and he has a mustache!
    Trypticon - He's a titan and a giant dinosaur!
Stunticons - Mostly Breakdown, but the others make scattered appearances.
Rumble and Frenzy - One of Soundwave's more well known cassettes
Sixshot - Only Transformers character (besides his son and RiD 2001 Megatron) to have six alt modes.
Scorponok - Rival to Fortress Maximus, he is also "A fucking scorpion." I solute you if you get the reference.
Galvatron - He was originally apart of the main list, but I rejected him because it so heavily consisted of characters from the 1984-1985 toyline. But he is still iconic.
Bludgeon - One of the few characters from the 1988 toyline to have atleast some relevance.

    The Combaticons
After the 07' movie, Brawl has had more appearances in Transformers media. While not alot, he is still recognized by casuals. Also he has a unique design, seeing how he is a tank. Also he's the goto Combaticon.
Also Onslaught and Swindle are popular, more so Swindle due to his conman persona. Blast-Off and Vortex... not as remembered as much.
Also Bruticus seems to be the goto Combiner... when Devastator is busy.

    Ravage
The goto cassette Transformers, and one of the few Transformers to take the form of an animal. While most people know him as some growling animal, the comics give him more humanity and show Ravage is far more intelligent than most people think. I wish we saw more of Ravage's humanity.

    Thundercracker
Wish we saw more of this guy. Thundercracker was never capitalized, mainly personality wise. But after issue 4# of the 2009 Transformers comics, he is far more popular. Due to his love for humanity and his eventual hatred of the Decepticons. He isn't fully contributed to their cause, and was convinced to join.
He was a popular character... if Starscream got a figure recently.
Also Thundercracker is my favorite Seeker. He is so cool!

    Skywarp
People love Skywarp, I think he's cool!
He is a joker, a cruel one at that. He screams Decepticon and while he is my least favorite of the seekers, he does have a place in other people's hearts.

    Laserbeak
    Soundwave's second trademark cassette.
Iconic for his "Laserbeak, eject!" He is my favorite cassette, because he seems like a pet to Soundwave. I imagine Soundwave playing with his Minicons in his free time. Also he had way more appearances compared to Soundwave's other minicons.

    Blitzwing
How can you mention Decepticons without Blitzwing! The most iconic Triple Changer! I love Blitzwing as a character, and a villian. Wish we saw more of him though. He is typically the goto Triple Changer, or simply cannon fodder!

    Astrotrain
Yeah... I know little about Astrotrain as a character, but he's cool.
He was the second Triple Changer to be introduced, and while not as iconic as Blitzwing, his train alt mode stands out. I wish we had more train Transformers!

    Constructicons
Hey! The Constructicons are far more well known than Bruticus!
Green construction vehicles aside, they aren't my favorite combiner team, but hey! Their cool!
Also Devastator! The first combiner, and one of the few Combiners that require 6 components!
Devastator is typically the rampaging brute throughout the 35 years of the franchise, although he seems to be falling out in favor of the Combaticons.

    Insecticons
    Bombshell, Kickback, and Shrapnel, Shrapnel.
The other Decepticon special team, they take the form of insects. While Hardshell, oh I'm sorry "Bombshell" proved to be more popular.
Shrapnel is cool, cool. and no one cares about Kickback.

    Coneheads
Dirge, Ramjet, and what's his face!
If a seeker mold comes out... expect them, well most of the time.
Ramjet has a cool color scheme, Dirge lives up to his name, and Thrust... is cool I guess.

This was more hastily done so...
Big 4 Decepticons that aren't the 4 listed above!

Thundercracker, Skywarp, Astrotrain, and Blitzwing! Easy!

But in 1986-1987 Galvatron, Scourge, Cyclonus, and Scorponok.

You can use any of the characters I listed or in the honorable mentions.

The ones excluded are absolutely the Big 4.
The next tier from the choices given, I give as :
*Thundercracker - probably more familiar since G1 as "the other seeker" more than Skywarp, and even more so after the first IDW verse.
    *Ravage and
*Laserbeak - Always popular characters no matter the universe.
*Constructicons - Tough choice between them and Astrotrain, but I think Devastator is just more beloved in the long run over Choo-Choo-Rocket.

Outside of the Big 4? I see things in a different way, cause mine are mostly not on the poll.

Again I'm inclined to go with the ones that have appeared across various media, but then in this case Hasbro never does seem to put as much emphasis on specific 'Cons in various media as they do with the 'Bots (even though some, like Barricade and Slipstream, do pop up now and again in the various toy lines) - when it comes to the bad guys, certain characters just seem to recur.
That said, outside of the usual 'Con Fab Four, I'd go with Laserbeak, Blitzwing and Lockdown since they've all managed by now to appear in the comics, cartoons AND movies (not counting any movie tie-in comics) and I suppose Megatronus/The Fallen would be the fourth one since he also fits into that group.

For most of S2, I would say the Blitzwing, Astrotrain, Ramjet, and Rumble.

The triple changes because they actually challenged for leadership. Astrotrain, showed who was boss in the God Gambit episode.

Ramjet, being the main conehead, as he seemed like an enforcer in Starscream's coronation until Galvatron showed up.

Unfortunately, Skywarp and Thundercracker seemed largely forgotten for most of S2 as they did not get many lines and were not seen in several episodes. Probably, just minding the space-bridge.

I would say Rumble as the last of the 4 as he was quite vocal and staunchly supported Soundwave in the movie.

I'm not really sure why you chose not to include some of the 86 guys since they have had vastly more screen time than the majority of the characters you put up as options.

My four for Sunbow G1 would be Devastator, Scourge, Cyclonus, and Galvatron.

Marvel comics-wise I'd go with Galvatron, Scorponok, Ravage and Bludgeon.

The list was extremely hard to make, some are more prominent than others. While some do leave a impact, but don't do anything.

I'd say Soundwave's Cassettes all fall under one category.

    Apart from that I'd say
    - Devastator
    - Thundercracker
    - Skywarp

Thread title shouldve been "the next big 4"
    anyway for me its
Insecticons - Pretty cool in that not only were they Decepticons but they're their own separate faction. A first? (did Constructicons come after?)
    Constructicons/Devastator - i mean c'mon, the OG combiner.
    Laserbeak - Megatron's favorite pet
Astrotrain - One of the first triple changers. It was a toss up between AT and BW but went with AT instead.

Ravage and Laserbeak were easily my first two votes because they appeared so often and are recognizably unique.
Then the Constructicons for how iconic Devastator is as the first combiner.
Last choice was Astrotrain. He seemed pretty important with him transporting many Decepticons a lot, and his unique voice.
I would put them all ahead of Shockwave.
Skywarp and Thundercracker are just army builders...

What is the point of this thread? You ask who the big four are, then list the big four and remove them as choices. You're not asking who the big four are, you're asking something else, who are the next biggest name Decepticons perhaps? Who else beyond them are considered important?

In my opinion, there is no “big four”. There is only one and he doesn’t need to be on any list: Scorponok.

The four you said not to pick ARE the Big 4.

Beyond that? Scorponok, Blugeon, Ratbat, and Galvatron.

As I’ve told TheWarPathGuy, I really enjoy these topics.

They take me back to my childhood - talking with friends about this and that character. Good times.
