I am longing so much for a new Whirl version in upcoming toylines since the design from Generations in 2014 just felt off for me. Until then I decided to go with the Headrobots Drone Upgrade Set for Tomahawk, and repaint the whole thing. There is hardly a spot on that Transformer that I didnt touch, I took him completely apart, and it was the first time I undid flathead-pins with a soldering iron, like I saw in a youtube tutorial. That was a bad idea, I melted the plastic around the pin, and it took a lot of extra work to fix this figure again. Anybody got more experience with removing flathead pins and knows a easier, less destructive way? Let me know please. Hasbro is using those pins more and more in ther new toylines, making my life as a customer harder :/
Looks really good! I would never even consider removing a flathead pin (mainly because the only time I have removed pins are with my bare hands...). I kinda think the original feet seem more like whirl, but the new ones look good too. I wonder if anyone has made "claws" that plug into 5mm hands.
That looks really good. My experience with flat head pins is that some come out real easy, while others melt the surrounding plastic. As I hold the soldering iron to the pin, I push and release, this seems to break up some of the hold of the plastic on the pin. I also use an exact knife to loosen the pin and needle nose pliers come in handy as well. Most pins come out without incident.
Soldering iron plus a strong magnet...never did it myself ...but reading the Transformers Worldwide Customs page made me aware of that technic
